True20 Fantasy Paths

Using only the True20 classes of Expert, Adept and Warrior you can create all the standard, or at least the d20 3.x standard, fantasy classes. Yes, Wizards in the D&D sense are not the same as True20 adepts, but you can get them there if you have this book. Each class is defined and then progressions from level 1 to 20 are given. Of course, you can stray from the various paths to do your own thing, that a strength of True20, not a weakness. Also, an added feature of these fully stated out level progressions is that if you need an NPC, say a 3rd level bard or a 15th level cleric, then you have those stats ready to go. It doubles as a rogues gallery.

This is an excellent source for ready made player characters and NPCs. There are literally hundreds of usable characters in this product. The guidelines for combining roles and selecting feats so as to emulate d20 character classes is useful for those wishing to do so. Overall, this product shows you what's possible with True20 and blazes the way for future paths in this and other settings.

LIKED: The raw numbers of characters presented means a narrator never has to scramble to create another NPC.

DISLIKED: Two of my favorite character types, monk and druid, are not included.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied
Anything True20 is going to get a good review from me! This product augments the core book with sample progressions for standard fantasy classes. Even if you do not use any of the progressions provided, this book is a shining example of how the roles, feats, backgrounds, and powers can be combined to create any of the standard d20 classes. This covers the first third of the book; the remainder of the book is devoted to sample characters throughout their 20-level progression; an EXCELLENT source not only for NPCs/GM characters, but also to help keep PCs on the path.

LIKED: It's True20. 'nuff said!

DISLIKED: No fantasy path for the psychic warrior.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied
Fantasy Paths

First, let me say that I should have given my commits on this a long time ago but, for reason that still to this day escape me I haven?t so now the time to correct it.

Fantasy Paths, offers for these (including myself) who from time to time fall into lazy character creation, a quick and clean character that can fit into any fantasy campaign. Paths also offers a neat way for those who?d prefer a way of bring the characters more in line with True20 (core book rules for classes) and a great template of how to import other DnD classes. I highly remand this PDF for anyone who thinking about running a fantasy game in the True20 system.

LIKED: I love how the pdf is put together and the art for each classes.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
I was hesitant to buy this initially as one thing I liked about True20 was the options for character creation. However, I since bought it and I have found it an invaluable tool as a GM. The benefits are:

 1. It can make creating True20 PCs a breeze. It suits those players who want less option at character creation as well as allowing for quick character creation should you need it.

 2. It makes creating True20 NPCs a breeze. This is especially true if you are converting NPCs from D&D or other D20 products as the heroic paths are close to the base D&D classes. In fact, I probably use this product more than my True20 Bestiary in my True20 Dragonlance and Ptolus campaigns.

LIKED: Whilst I expect this product to be good for players, it has proved a much more valuable tool to me as a GM.

DISLIKED: Not much. The art quality is great and it provides exactly what it says it does.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied
This product is exactly as advertised; it provides character progressions from levels 1 to 20 for each of 10 standard d20 classes, as you would play them in True20, specifically: Assassin, Barbarian, Bard, Cleric, Fighter, Paladin, Psion, Ranger, Rogue, and Wizard. There is also a fully-detailed 1st level character, ready to print and play, for each class.

Pro: For your $10, you get 200 pre-generated NPCs and 10 pre-generated PCs; that's about 5c each. It's also interesting to see how the designers implement standard fantasy classes using the True20 system.

Con: There's nothing here that you couldn't work out for yourself given time.

For me personally, time is in short supply but I have $10 to spare, so it's good value. Your Mileage May Vary.

LIKED: The profiles are things I want anyway, and this product saved me a lot of time.

DISLIKED: No Monks! No Sorcerors either, but given the Conviction rules they aren't different enough from Wizards to justify the extra page count.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied
