As with Troll ITC products, my opinion might be considered biased because I got my copy free, but I will try to remain objective and honest.
Ben let out a whole lot of crazy for this one. It was actually nice to see him take a break from the seriousness of Aruneus and just to have a light heart-ed read, and this is definitely that.
The set of magic items are all flawed by design, with some hilarious results. He did a good job of keeping things low level and fair priced, so the end result is a bunch of ready to use items that could really go in any session right away.
I can't see bringing these items into a serious campaign, certainly not all of them anyhow, but if you are running something more casual and for a lot of laughs, or just a short one shot session, these items could easily find a place in the treasure piles or on a bazaar merchant's table.
There's a fair amount of repetition in the names, which is fine because they come from a limited Intelligence Goblin Wizard, but I felt like a little more creativity could have been used rather than prefixing each item with "en". It's hard to be critical of a product that is obviously not meant to be scrutinized, but I also felt like the character Mirkmoot really stole the show, but we never actually really got to meet him. Only through description from a faceless, non-descript, and all too modern merchant did we learn anything of the character that most held my attention. It's not to say Ben shouldn't have written the product this way, it is likely a large part of what made Mirkmoot so alluring, but I could have used a little more direct from the source.
That said, I think the real value I got out of this is that it just got me thinking in a different way. Several items are plays on (nonsense)words that easily lead me down other similar ideas, and every one of the items seems to me to be well balanced due to inherit bugs in the Goblin Mirkmoot's design. I think Ben has found a really fun character in Mirkmoot, and I suspect we'll see him back for more magic items or cameos in future products, you can tell he really likes the character ... and for good reason. Go for the buck buy, it's worth it for a couple of laughs, but the real return on investment is the long term ideas you'll glean from this.
