E.N. Guilds - Thieves' Guild

I liked the Thieves Guild as it offers an easy structure for you to drop into your own campaign, with quite a bit of flavor. You probably won't find yourself wanting to use all the stuff here - but that's the point, there's enough to pick and choose from. I wasn't convinced by the skills or the feats, and the Gods section just doesn't do anything for me, but there are a couple of interesting spells and magic items and the Hooligan prestige class might be useful in a bar brawl. Overall, this product has plenty to offer.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied
E.N. Guilds - Safe Harbor Guild

The Safe Harbor Guild is a strange product, as I was left with the feeling that it was trying to do too much and didn't really pull it off. There is some good detail on the guild itself, its history, fees, members etc, and a couple of good feats. But there is also a lot of waste, such as the chapter on Gods and the guild, which really didn't add anything, and the prestige classes which are of questionable use. So, overall, not a bad product (it certainly comes with some interesting ideas), but nothing to write home about either.

DISLIKED: The background for this product makes it really tough to print out, as it's parchment and means your printer is going to be working overtime. That's fine, but please give us a background-free, printer-friendly version too!

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Disappointed
Wow! A great adventure - a climb up a mountain, a well planned and stocked tower, plus numerous side trips to extra-dimiensional nodes! There are a number of notable encounters strewn throughout and a lot for both the players and DM to get their teeth into. The obnoxious portraits are just class...

Also well presented with some decent art.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
A nice product, well laid out and presented, The Shadow of Fane is an adventure for 3rd level characters which takes place in the mountains. Although this is the second of three adventures, the author has taken the care to add a detailed section enabling it to be played on its own.

Primarily a combat driven adventure, there are one or two memorable encounters, including with the ogre Drobin and his son, Drobin Jnr., whose descriptions and mannerism were very vivid and rich, plus a encounter where you must save some merchants who have been ambushed (the combat is well underway by the time the adventurers turn up to save the day). The final enocunter is also well thought-out.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Satisfied
0one's Blueprints: The Great City: Dock Ward
Publisher: 0one Games

Date Added: 02/07/2006 00:00:00

I was a bit dissappointed with this after purchasing the excellent The Great City, as I was expecting a little more from it. This is somewhat harsh, since the The Great City: Dock Ward offers a lot of useful maps and helps expand the previously mentioned product, and for the price it is an excellent buy. However I just felt it could have added a little more detail to the city, rather than just expanding the buildings.

The Great City: Dock Ward is, as it states, the Dock Ward of The Great City, which can be purchased as a seperate product and supplies an overview of the entire city. The Dock Ward consists of six maps which detail some of the areas of the ward, including the dock, a lighhouse, plus a warehouse, inn, etc. With the exception of dock map, all pretty standard fare really. The maps are nice, and come in both black and blue, but I just wish they'd also add a few more maps detailing some of the streets and alleys of the city.

QUALITY: Acceptable

VALUE: Disappointed
The Great City is an excellent resource for the DM, supplying high quality maps of a complete city, including an overview map, which is then divided into sections ('Wards'), each of which is then given greater focus.

The maps are exceptionally detailed and will get the creative juices flowing, as it offers much potential. Although the maps come with keyed buildings, there are no written descriptions of these areas, which are left for the DM to fill in. These can, along with many other functions, be turned on and off according to taste.

The maps come in old fashioned blue and also in black, so you can go with whatever suits your tastes (assuming, of course, that your taste happens to be either blue or black...)

Overall, this is an excellent product for those looking for a detailed city map that they can expand themselves and fill in all the building details. Even for those who don't have the time, it's still a damn fine map :)

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Very Satisfied
A nice adventure for 1st level characters with a detailed village and NPCs. There is a nice balance between investigation and combat, with the plot expanding as the adventure progresses. Although this is designed as the first of three, the writer has included a section which details how to run this as a one off. The maps and artwork are good and it is well presented.

LIKED: This isn't just a hack and slash adventure, but requires some roleplay and investigation. The section on running it as a one off adventure is also very detailed and shows the author actually cared about those not interested in running the other parts.

DISLIKED: I would have liked to have seen more of the ordinary villagers fleshed out, adding another dimension to it.

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
The Kyngdoms Campaign Setting
Publisher: The Kyngdoms

Date Added: 01/18/2006 00:00:00

The Kyngdoms Campaign Setting is filled with everything you'll need to get a new campaign off the ground. The layout is excellent, logical and easy to use and it is fully indexed, which is something that I find very helpful. It is a full world and allows you to choose the type of game you want play. The background for the world is very detailed and amongst the best I've seen - and that includes the more well known settings - and offers a wide range of role playing opportunities. It comes with a complete pantheon and each nation is given a thorough explanation, with some being exceptionally vibrant and detailed, as are the chapters on the races and cosmology. There are a bunch of spells and feats, but these are mostly taken from other open sources, though where this occurs it is generally seemless.

LIKED: The detail is just amazing. You can really lose yourself in it and it really gets the creative juices flowing. It is also very well laid out and easy to use.

DISLIKED: It could probably do with a unique selling point that helps it stand out from the crowd (though this doesn't detract from it in any way).

QUALITY: Excellent

VALUE: Very Satisfied
E.N. Guilds - Merchant Guild
Publisher: EN Publishing
by Fester M. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 01/18/2006 00:00:00

'E.N. Guilds - Merchant Guild' is an excellent way to add depth and variety to your campaign. There is some useful and workable information on how the guild runs, plus a couple of related Prestige Classes and feats. The Prestige Classes are interesting, but I personally didn't find the feats overly useful. Also, the new array of Knowledge skills seem unnecessary and I'm sure the more generic Knowledge (nature) or Knowledge (architecture and engineering) will do, instead of Knowledge (clay) or Knowledge (carving tools), for example. Some people may like this extra layer of detail, however. There is also a very useful section detailing various NPCs that can be quicly dropped into a game.

Overall, this is a nice product, well laid out with good artwork and filled with useful and interesting ideas. I'll certainly be using it in my future games.

LIKED: Details on implementing guilds in game play is probably the most useful section for me and I also liked the slightly unusual Prestige Classes. The section on NPCs will also find some use in my game.

DISLIKED: The array of very specific Knowledge skills is not something I'll be adopting .

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied
