Shaintar Monster Cards
Publisher: Savage Mojo
by Tom W. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 02/20/2014 20:43:45

A great idea marred by odd presentation. There are two monsters printed on each page and the backs of those cards are printed on the following page. It would have made a whole lot more sense putting the front and back of each card on the same page. As it stands, if you just want to print specific cards you are wasting extra ink and paper on cards you might not want to print. For example, one page has a Builder Arclancer and the Aetherial Warder of the First Host and the next page has the reverse side for both. I would rather print one page, fold it over, and tape it closed.

I greatly appreciate the feedback. We wrestled a lot with how best to format and present the material, with visibility being a serious consideration. The effort for doing the layout the way you indicated - while a great idea - was not something I could justify additional resources for. Once we got to this iteration with all the effort that went into it, we simply decided to go with it as is and refocus on all the other stuff. If you ultimately find these are not useful to you, I will be more than happy to gift you with something of similar value; that goes for anyone else who ultimately is unsatisfied with this product.

.45 Adventure: Crimefighting Action in the Pulp Era
Publisher: Rattrap Productions LLC
by Tom W. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 03/26/2007 00:00:00

I'm extremely happy with this game and I think it was a nice surprise to the rest of my group when I had them try it out. The narrative-driven gameplay really appealed to this group of roleplayers. Only a few models per side are needed for an evening's enjoyment with larger games possible as well. This makes it easy on the wallet. The system is simple enough to pick up quickly with enough detail to keep it interesting. Character creation is also a breeze and allows for some very colorful personalities.

<br><br> <b>LIKED</b>: Fun and affordable with a great "pulpy" feel. The skills list really adds a lot to the characters. <br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: It could use a revision as there are some rules that are a bit unclear.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Excellent<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Very Satisfied<br>

E-Z TILES: Dungeon Hazards & Traps
Publisher: Fat Dragon Games
by Tom W. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 07/28/2006 00:00:00

Not a bad product. The art isn't extraordinary but its seviceable and I like the generic nature of the tiles. I don't care for having art on different Layers like they are here. It makes more sense to me to have the trap sections as individual tiles. Then you can drop it on the tile wherever you need it. <br><br> <b>LIKED</b>: Generic nature of the tiles.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: Stand alone trap tiles would have offered more versitility. The art for the traps themselves isn't very good. <br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Acceptable<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Satisfied<br>

Thank you for the review. This set isn't really intended to be a stand alone product, but rather an extension of the first two E-Z TILE Dungeon sets (which is why we're offering it for FREE.) Making the traps as individual tiles was never part of our plan as the entire series was designed from the start to make use of the wonderful options the Acrobat PDF Layer palette offers.

Shaintar: Immortal Legends Player's Guide
Publisher: Savage Mojo
by Tom W. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 09/13/2005 00:00:00

Any fan of traditional fantasy will enjoy Shaintar. There's a good amount of unique content and some interesting takes on pre-existing rules from other Savage Settings. What makes it worthwhile is the fact that you can apply it to a different setting so it that sense it's nice to have.

<br><br><b>LIKED</b>: At $10, it's a steal. Lots of useful bits outside of Shaintar. There's also a very good amount of world info to get you started without the actual World Guide.<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: As a player's guide its VERY complete. The only downside is that I'll have to wait for monsters and the like. <br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Excellent<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Very Satisfied<br>

A long time coming in the world of paper models. This is simply the most beautiful model I've ever assembled. It has a stunning level of detail and has found a lot of use at my table. Another huge success for Worldworks! <br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Excellent<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Very Satisfied<br>

A great set! Its the perfect balance between looks and ease of construction. As usual, another gamer friendly Microtactix release. I can't wait to see the rest of Starbase Omega. <br><br><b>LIKED</b>: 4 ships, ground tiles, and 3 buildings. Great bang for the buck<br><br><b>DISLIKED</b>: I would have liked to see more 2nd obstacle tiles for use outside the buildings; like the chemical spill counter.<br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Very Good<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Very Satisfied<br>

I'm a bit disappointed in this one. Its a nice looking set and the props are very cool, but its not modular enough. You can create any layout you want but its designed to be permanent. There are no free floating walls or rooms. It'll look nice, but for rpgs or minis gaming its not very good. The same layout over and over will get old fast. I rated the quality Very Good, because it is. Its just not very useful for more than one purpose. <br><br><b>QUALITY</b>: Very Good<br><br><b>VALUE</b>: Disappointed<br>

Just to clarify. This set is ENTIRELY modular. You can create any layout you desire. A user could easily build modular corridor and room elements to be reconfigured on-the-fly. It really depends how you put together the set from the get go. You hold the keys here ;)

Savage Tales #4: Rise Alabama!
Publisher: Pinnacle Entertainment
by Tom W. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 04/05/2004 00:00:00

This one is pretty cool. Its a perfect one-shot with a nice set of figure flats to add some flavor to the tabletop. My only complaint is that the maps included aren't particularly helpful. I would have preferred something I could use for combat more readily. Granted, that would have taken up a lot more space. You'll want to keep your battlemat handy. The story is interesting if not 100% original. It will easily fit into any campaign during the late 1800's or early 1900's.

Savage Tales #5: Noble Deceit
Publisher: Pinnacle Entertainment
by Tom W. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 04/05/2004 00:00:00

IMO, the best of the Savage Tales. As opposed to the others in the series Noble Deceit can take 2 - 3 sessions to complete. The floor tiles and figure flats add a ton to the game and are nice enough to be recycled for other games. The pre-gen characters are nice and have little write-ups to help you get a feel for them. There is no world to speak of which means it can be dropped quite easily into almost any ongoing campaign or easily served up for a long one-nighter.

WorldWorksGames / Chunky Dungeons 1.5"

Worldworks has done it again. I've never been disappointed in the past with the company and it doesn't look like I will be for a long time. The build-as-you-go concept is terrific for my roleplaying needs and the set easily doubles for a lot of my mini's games as well. The Pro Masterboard has inspired me to retrofit all my old sets to work with it.
The instructions are crystal clear with lots of photographic examples.
