Reach Adventure 2: Theories of Everything

Bought it, read it, but never found it worth running.

This adventure is based entirely around the conflict of a set of NPC's. To run this as intended you need to be an exceptional GM. Or at least be a great voice actor. With out beeing able to play out wierd conflicts between NPC so that the PC find them interesting and try to brake up the fight/argument I think this is not going to work.

I'm playing around with the idea of turning this into a one-shot by using the NPC's as pre-generated PC and letting the players sort out the conflict, and the GM taking the role that was intended for the players.

13 page of interesting ideas for places the PC can visit. A few of them gave me ideas that could probably result in a few sessions og gaming. Though expensive for rather few pages I found it worth it.

This small booklet contains 17 pages describind companies that can be inserted into any campaign. A few of the companiex have neat ideas, but most of them are fairly standard. Though it is a ok product it is not awesome value for money.

I'm giving it three stars becaus:

  • Non of the companies got me reel exited
  • Non of the companies was interesting enought to spawn of adventure ideas
  • All of the companies is usable in my current campaign as added falvour

Marches Adventure 1: High and Dry

Nice starting adventure to give the players access to a ship with some quirks and history. I like that the advanture does not require any combat. I like that the book has a few neat maps of the locations in question to make it easier for the GM to explain the various situations. It is also a bonus that the adventure does not require any combat to complete. The main drawback is that much of the adventures events is based on the playing character always beeing out of luck or receiving the short end.

Short adventure that can be included into any campaign and any remote location. I would like to have seen at least a few ready do use maps of the environment and the combat sceenes. Also would have been nice with a bit more information about the planet to make aftermat and follow up adventure easier.

Nice book with very clear explanations of the system.

Drawbacks:

  • No setting information
  • No infromation about configuring a ship, feels like must have information to play the gam.

If you are new to the Warhammer 40K this book in it's current state gives you a limited view of the setting. All the setting stuff is taken out, but there is a lot of fluff text in the system sections that teaches you something about the setting. From this limited view I like the setting.

This book is mostly about the rules. The rules are presented in a dare I say American way, that is it is super verbose. It spends a lot of pages explaining the rules. Having example for a lot of the rules taking up even more lines, some of the examples have flaws in the math making them more confusing then helpful, but I guess that will be fixed in the final version.

The system hold promise, but I'm disappointed with the amount of choices. I made six characters in order to run the scenario in the back of the book, and I really felt that it was difficult to make all six unique. Some of them ended up a bit too similar for my taste. This might be that the character creation process leaves very little room for customization. You get only a small amount of points to spend as you want.

The system really need more equipment options for all categories, en especially for non-weapons. In addition it needs more elite advantages. The three that are in the book is way to few.

One final note I like the system for influence and subtelty, but I'm very sceptical of the economy system. In all my campaigns as player and gm money has been a important factor. Getting enough of them to afford to get or do something. In this system all you need to do is roll the aquisition dice. And I wonder how the players will feel about it. Is it going to be that they all want the best aquisition character to get them stuff, or will all of them try to get some knowledge of it?

It is a good scan for the most part. You can search, except in some of the headings. What really annoys me is that on some of the pages with black background there are huge white boxes on the page covering the text. This is a particular problem on the pantheon pages about Aesir. I got around it by cut'n paste over to a text editor to read what is behind the boxes. This is a amateur mistake they never should have allowed in a sold product.
