An RPG Resource Review:

This is just amazing!

Here you get a collection of rooms in the usual lush 0one Games style - an entrance hall, an empty room, an armoury, a library and a dark temple - but instead of just printing them out and using them, you can amend them to suit your needs first! Each room is paired with a 'control sheet' where you can choose the lighting level, pick various features from a list of options and even click on marked portions of the map to cycle through options - for example, choose between an open door, a closed door or the shattered remains of a door on the floor.

Moreover, you can save up to 3 'preset' configurations for later use, and add your own comments, which will be both saved and printed along with your map. While presented in full colour, the maps can also be converted to greyscale if preferred.

This product enables the DM to combine the visual effect of one of 0one Games's floorplans with the precise details of the room in question as determined by the needs of his own scenario... and you can even implement changes for when a party of adventurers return - perhaps there once was a locked door which they kicked in last time they came round, or the armoury may have been looted...

We are now beginning to see truly innovative uses of computer technology within role-playing product, but this one stands head and shoulders above the rest for being both technologically advanced and genuinely useful! Note that you will need to upgrade to Acrobat Reader v.6 to play with this at all, but that's a small price to pay (especially as Acrobat Reader is free anyway!).

This is not quite as flexible as I'd hoped BUT it's damn good all the same. The usual high quality art work from these people.

This product is awesome! It contains two basic maps (entrance and empty room) I found very useful (I have built a small dungeon level using just these two maps and the Dark Temple) and three maps that are more detailed: Dark temple, Library and Armory (hey guys, look for the secret door in the library!). Each map has four built-in presets (it means you get 20 pre-made battlemaps) and three "spaces" to store your maps. This product really made a good use of the PDF, I've seen few publisher using this media so well... and the maps are gorgeous. Waiting for Customizable Battlemaps Vol.II!!!! :)

I'm not hugely impressed sadly. I totally recommend 0one's Battlemaps series, (they are fantastic), but this Customizable Battlemap set just doesn't add an awful lot for the price. I was aware that in their blurb 0one are careful not to say how many base maps are customizable, and it turns out there are only 5 maps you can customize. What is worse, 3 of them have already featured in the Battlemap series (Armoury, Library, Entrance), and of the remaining 2, one is just a blank 5x5 tile room - all you can customize are the doors. The final 1 is a well done Dark Temple, which can be customized to show a secret exit once (if) it is found - that really is nice. Finally, the 0one blurb for this item goes "Do you want to put a trap under the staircase or want the treasure room plundered?" - so I am somewhat surprised to find that there is no map for a treasure room! False advertising, or are they just getting carried away?
