I haven't play testing it yet, but reading through the text it seems like it wouuld be a good game. It doesn't follow the classis d20 mechanics, but it's pretty close and the changes are easy to understand if you've played any d20 game. The writing is good, the author really lays out an interesting world with fairly well developed chaacters and struggles. It's necessarily a little vague because it's the ealy access edition, so the spell lists and chapter on monsters are rather small, but this is noted where it occurs and should be fixed in the final version. I'm pretty excited to get a game going, it's streamlined enough that I suspect I'll even be able to play in a video chat with friends, whih would be tougher with some of the other d20 games I've played that haven't been so streamlined. I'd definetly recommend giving it a try.

I'll have to admit, I was a bit uncertain about the premise to this game, given that it's a fantasy game, but with dog people. That's not terribly imaginative, but it might sell just based on the aesthetic appeal.

That was my initial "judging the book by the cover" impression. I was wrong.

I am thoroughyl impressed with the way that the underlying premise is actually more compelling than any of the trappings of the game. What might have been just another anthropomorphic fantasy game is very nearly a treatise on cognizance and the influence of instinct on society.

That alone should make you want to check out this setting. It grabs you by the lapels, begs you to care about the history and society that dominates the setting, and gives liberal portions of the trappings and subtle commentary that compell you to learn more; to make you want to play in this sandbox of subversive pop culture that would otherwise be a boring genre treatment.

This is not just a fantasy game, it's a fantasy game with cunnign satire woven into its fabric. If that is something that you can appreciate, pay the $2 to find out what I mean. You may just be asking yourself the same question that I am. When is the full release going to be??

This is the "early access" version of Pugmire that was released for free to Kickstarter backers, and is now available to the general public. While the book is not perfect (it was never intended to be), the amount of information provided is phenominal - It's enough to run a full campaign and then some. The character creation system is streamline, but allows for a lot of customization, and is friendly to new players and table top vetrans alike. The book even includes some "behind the screen" secrets for GMs, so that they can better understand the world of Pugmire while running a campaign. While there are a few quirks (the magic system needs some clarification, and some of the Breed Families were obviously switched within their breed groups), the book is plenty to whet your appetite for the full core rulebook, once it's released!

This early access to Pugmire has gotten me even more interested in picking up the game once it's completed. It gives a good idea of what the rules and the world will be like and I can't wait to see more.
