The Chaos Gods Come to Meatlandia
Publisher: Knight Owl Publishing

A pretty wacky setting, but on the good side. Reminds me of Narcosa, that was also really weird and unusual.

As to the content we have a mix and match of classes, short descriptions of places and some tidbits of information of the titular Chaos Gods. Gamewise this is a semi-solid accessory, I would rather call it that. It's fun to use some elements of this setting in conjunction with elements from Narcosa and poof you've got some incredibly weird (but not gory) piece of setting. Drug dealing gnomes, hazy halflings with chaotic mellow alignment (yeah), totalled trolls and stoned snakes.

What's not to love?

ReArm Yourself!

This product has some good features that make up for the mediocre rest.

Pros:

  • interesting list of armor types that include some ideas about not so common armor types (e.g. spider silk).
  • two tables for weapon and armor traits are very good. I would definitely use them if I were to GM some OSR.
  • the whole layout is nice

Cons:

  • I have a feeling, that some weapons presented in this product were added just to fill up the weapon table. Quite many of those weapons have additional micro-rules, such as +1 to hit when X or if critical hit occurs then Y. Those rules are not really intuitive and to be honest, I don't really think that some of them would even be some kind of competition against boring one handed 1d8 damage sword.
  • magical gems... let's just skip this one

Overall this a very good product. I would recommend buying this one if just for those armor and weapon trait tables.

In the Name of...

Few weak points of this PDF:

  • classes are just plain out of place and silly, they are not really fitting into an OSR in my oppinion.
  • taboo class is a nice idea, but those presented here are somewhat shallow as I see it.
  • generator for deities is just another set of tables for generating deities. You can find better here and there.

In my opinion this product is not worth the buck. Ideas lack playtesting, and the whole lacks depth.

It is better to take a look at the other PDF from this author, available for the moment - Rearm yourself!, which is actually quite good.

Short comment - rather moderately interesting collection of monsters. Oozing bulb of flesh, dark twist on a unicorn and some kind of semi self-aware plant-human entity, that corrupts living beings with just it's presence.

Moderately interesting comic, but it is operating on schemas and stereotypes. Sure, you can read it if you have a spare time, but otherwise don't even bother.

Dead Age Player's Guide Preview

Well, this preview sounds good (nasty!), but this whole "no actual human" concept is not really that new. There is a game from Poland namely "Robotica" which is already "running" and this whole concept from Dead Age seems very similar. Well, I am still curious about how Dead Age will turn out at the end, but if you are hungry of apocalyptic, no-human world give Robotica a try if you have the opportunity. It is well worth it, in my opinion.

A very interesting read, I must say that I feel a bit smarter now. There is not really much to add, but still it can give you a basic insight. Also - an editor is really a must (good point with in/visibility of writing depending on the quality of it) and a good advice to all - if you tend to be getting late on a continuous basis (in any field) you piss people off!
