Vicious Villains: The Baddest of the Bad
Publisher: Aegis Studios
by Andrew J. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 12/08/2015 00:17:53

I really, really dislike being negative about anyone's efforts. However, I got this product (and a number of others from this company) in a cyber monday sale for 20 cents each and I was ripped off even at that price.

The characters presented are ill-conceived, uninterestingly presented, and in some placed show gross misunderstandings of the M&M rules. These are the kinds of characters that one constructs when they are bored, just learning the rules, and playing around with a character generator. I can't judge what this characters might have been. Given the time to be further developed, or subjected to the scrutiny of an editor, they might have been more. However, they seemed that they were simply accumulated, sorted by concept and then published without any real scrutiny.

Andrew, I\'m sorry to see that you are dissatisfied with our Superhero Support line. I would be interested to know where you feel the characters display gross misunderstandings of the M&M rules. If there is erroneous information within the supplement I would be happy to correct it. With regard to the level of development and style of presentation for each character, I\'m sorry to hear you didn\'t enjoy what was presented. The concepts and character descriptions in our Superhero Support products are designed to offer a brief overview of the character, mainly painted in broad strokes with a few hooks peppered throughout in order to make the characters able to be dropped into virtually any M&M game. These are meant to be springboards for a GM or player to use so they can have ready made, system compliant stats with a framework for concept and backstory but the freedom to flesh out each character to suit their own needs. Please feel free to reach out via comments below or through email to address specific concerns and I\'ll be happy to look into the problem areas you identify. I hope you were able to enjoy other products you acquired in the Cyber Monday sale. Thanks, Travis Legge Aegis Studios

I feel that the previews for this product were somewhat misleading. It clearly shows several background textures that are not included in the product.

Sewer Junction

I really want to like Dramascapes work. I want them to be good for the sake that they are so prolific if nothing else. However, no matter how much I want their products to be good, I just can't.

If I use anything that they produce for my games, I spend the whole time trying to confer with my players as to what each thing is supposed to be. Their maps are just so much visual noise with no clear distinction between one object and another. Each "map" appears to just be a series of commercial textures overlaid over each other haphazardly. The shadowing, when it exists, follows no lighting logic.

The creators for this company produce so much, I just wish that they would instead take the time to make a few items of quality. Unfortunately, their products are simply unusable.

High-Space Battlemaps: Firelight Scout Ship
Publisher: StoryWeaver
by Andrew J. [Verified Purchaser]
Date Added: 03/04/2014 19:17:49

I want to encourage those who put in the time to provide us with maps, so I really wanted to like this product.

However, it was simply poorly thought out and poorly executed. One often can't tell exactly what they're looking at. This is often due to small, avoidable errors. Like the door frames or furniture in rooms casting their shadows over nearby walls, forcing the mind to perceive them as being part of the floor instead of walls.

The ships designs would make more sense if there were a consistent design philosophy behind them. Rooms in spaceships are purpose built, not just the empty spaces inside the hull frame randomly filled with furnishings. In all this product suffered from "using the templates and tokens I have" rather than "finding the templates that work well".
