WatchGuard Solo - Ulysses (M&M 3e)
by A customer [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 07/07/2018 14:14:34

I really like this one, a little bit of Star Lord mixed with John Carter with some cool powers. I hope to see what his crew is like in future supplements.

WatchGuard Solo - Hourglass (M&M 3e)
by A customer [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 07/07/2018 09:17:30

I was attracted to her interesting character design, however her bio is simply a mess. "Late in the 24th Century, the USA President finally closed off all land borders, isolating the USA citizenry inside these walls, and then executing any remaining non-US citizens within the borders." starts off the whole story of how America doesn't exist anymore and it dominates her bio as a pretty huge rant on current American politics. But fine, whatever, this would be exusable if this didn't mean her actual bio was reduced to two small paragraphs. And it gives us the bare bones of her background, Emergent with time powers and goes to super school, obsessed with 21th century superheroes, and something happens that presumable sends her back in time. That's it. Not even a hint of her personality, what she might be doing in the Watchguard universe, that's it. Hell they don't even really connect her to the story of her future's history, no idea how this in detailed destruction of America has anything to do with the character except being 300 year old anceint history.

The character doesn't seem bad and I would love to actually learn more about her. But if that's why you buy this character bio expect to be similairly disappointed.

The WatchGuard Sourcebook 3e
by Charles S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/22/2017 17:26:02

Really top notch product all around. The artwork and presentation is excellent. Each character is well fleshed out and unique. I love the adventures provided as well, as it's something I feel was missing from the Hero's Handbook and Gamemaster Guides. With this book and the core rule book alone you have a wealth of story material, heroes and villains to start telling great stories with.

Highly recommended!

Brimstone - AoH Solo (M&M3e)
by Dominique S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 11/02/2015 17:30:09

The latest release in Sketchpad Studios line of Acts of Villainy/Acts of Heroism line is the hero Brimstone. It's also the first of "Iconic" releases, which detail some of the more prominent heroes of the Tribute Universe.

As with other entries in the series, it come with a character illustration, information on the character’s background, his motivations, an overview of his powers/abilities, as well as information on his employment, Paraphernalia, his associates, and two other versions of the character as his abilities have changed over the years.

While there are some typos, I really don’t have any major gripes about this one, as this is a fun character that GMs should be able to get a bit of mileage out of in their campaigns. I can easily see him being used as an NPC there to help the PCs out from time to time, or acting as a mentor to younger heroes.

The Homeguard - AoH Teams (M&M3e)
by Dominique S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 10/01/2015 11:54:59

The Homeguard is the first of what I hope to be a number of releases detailing the various hero groups inhabiting the Tribute Universe. It provides PDF provides details on the setting's premiere hero team, including full write ups on six members of teh current team; details of their HQ; information on some of the standard equipment the team uses; an overview of the team's history and bits of information on past team members; as well as details how the team gets along with the government and is perceived by the public.

The six character write-ups included detail their origin story (how they gained their powers), as well as other background information, an overview of their powers, personalities, and tactics, as well as other usual pieces of information to make it easier for GMs to integrate them into a game.

What I really like about this one is that it "feels" like I'm reading the history of an actual comic book super team, and one that I'd like to know more about. Namely the former and reserve members of the team. These guys are just flat out fun characters and ones that I could easily see fitting into a game I was running.

My one gripe is that the intro states there are seven current members, but only six are detailed. After speaking with the author, he's stated that this will be corrected in a future update.

Emperor Penguin - AoV Mastermind (M&M3e)
by Dominique S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 08/20/2015 07:32:14

Like other entries in the Acts of Villainy line, Emperor Penguin contains a brief intro by the author, the full color illustration, info on his origin/background, brief overview of his abilities, a few other misc. bits of information to make it easier for GMs to integrate him into their games, and full stats for and power write-ups for 3rd Edition Mutants and Masterminds.

Content wise, Emperor Penguin has got to be one of the most original villains I've seen for any gaming system, and that alone rates a couple of stars in my book. But that's not the only thing this release has going for it. He's got a very unusual, if not down right strange, strange, but well written backstory; some fun details on his personality; and details on his lair, as what master villain would be caught dead without one. But don't be fooled by his appearance, he's deadly, and heroes who take him lightly could find themselves in a bind very quickly.

Of the various "Mastermind" villains released for this series, he's my personal favorite.

Road Rash - AoV Solo (M&M3e)
by Jae C. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 08/05/2015 12:22:39

Just purchased Road Rash (the latest AoV) and discovered that it still comes with the herolab files so that's me buying back in as a regular purchaser -

Road Rash is another fun build... He was born with a faulty immune system, as an adult his friend Toby infects him with an experimental cure only to discover that it has side effects (what turns out to be a mind-controlling rash) and was actually backed by a criminal network (H.A.D.E.S for those who use the AoV universe) who attempted to kidnap him only to fall foul of his newly activated powers themselves leaving him free to control people through touch (and through an infected’s touch). Road Rash can now quickly gain an army in only a short time using his powers.

Red Serge - AoH Solo (M&M3e)
by Jae C. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 07/10/2015 10:45:23

NOW WITH HEROLAB FILES!!!!!

Ok now that's out - dislike the name, do like the build - a super-soldier built for Canada he is a energy blaster who found himself sequestered away before he had a chance to be the hero he had been trained to be. Surrounded by press specialists, image designers and social marketers, he was bombarded with rules for how he was expected to act and who he should to talk to. It wasn't to last as he became the hero Canada deserved...

The Nefarious Nine, pt.1 - AoV Teams (M&M3e)
by Jae C. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 07/09/2015 13:44:47

At last! The wonderful AoV universe comes with Herolab files to allow you to better adapt the characters to your universe... Then add in three of a proposed team of nine fun characters - I'm not sure whether the Nefarious Nine is realistic for the normal size of PC groups but the three published in this pack are a fun mix - and how can you not want a character called Agony? The builds are always well constructed and if you are happy to incorporate in elements of the AoV universe into your background then this is a well developed and fun background.

A good collection of characters, 90% of them instantly usable in whatever setting you want and the other 10% quickly adjustable. I'd love more information on Summit City but other than that a solid line-up.

Naga - AoV Solo (M&M3e)
by Dominique S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 01/31/2015 17:08:41

As with other releases in the series, Acts of Villainy Solo Series, Vol. 88 - Naga, introduces a single villain for use with Green Ronin’s Mutants and Masterminds 3rd Edition. The PDF, like previous entries is 6 pages long, with the first page being a cover page. The second contains an intro by the author, as well publisher and copyright info, while the two pages provide background information on main character. Naga, a former petty street criminal, now finds himself the would-be leader of an ancient snake worshiping cult, and is out to prove himself worthy of being their leader.

The back story provided provides details of how he gained his abilities, and some of his dealings with various other characters and agencies within the established Tribute Universe setting (something that can easily be inserted into an ongoing campaign), as well as things like a brief character quite, an overview of the character’s physical strength level and description of their powers, and any equipment and/or weapons they make carry/make use of. The next page consists of his Naga’s M&M character stats, while the last page details the standard Open Gaming License info required for use with any D20 or M&M products.

While I like Naga, and could easily see him making an appearance in a game, I do have one gripe. I wish the author had provided a few additional details on his cult, and the various artifacts mentioned in Naga's back story. But, that also leaves things open the GM to fill in. Overall, I give him 4 out of 5 stars.

Osprey - AoV Solo (M&M3e)
by Dominique S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 01/29/2015 22:37:57

Like previous releases in the Acts of Villainy Solo Series, Vol. 89 – Osprey, is presented in a standardized 5-6 page format with the first page being a cover page showing a full-sized color image of character. The second page presents a brief into by the series author D. T. Butchino, as well as blurb on the next “issue” in the series, and the standard publisher and copyright info.

The meat of the PDF consists of the next three pages of material. Each character in the series has a standardized write-up format consisting of a brief overview of the character, his background story, a smaller version of the cover art, a quote, a physical description, an overview of the character’s physical strength level and description of their powers, and any equipment and/or weapons they make carry/make use of. Osprey’s write-up also includes an NPC ally who assists him in maintaining his gear. The next page consists of his actual M&M stats, while the last page details the standard Open Gaming License info required for use with any D20 or M&M products.

Overall, I like Osprey’s write-up, especially the fact that he comes with details on how he manages to maintain all his hi-tech gear, and an NPC who assists him upgrading his equipment, as I find that a nice little addition. I could easily see Osprey being used as a foil to some type of hi-tech hero, or recurring villain in campaign.

Wisp - AoV Solo (M&M3e)
by Andrew L. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 07/19/2014 14:38:17

Wisp is a character that at the first read-through of her abilities reminded me of the type of character that is typical of a major heroes' rogues gallery (like Spider-Man, Batman or Iron Man)- a theme-based power set (light) who has learned to use their abilities in a variety of ways that would be a big challenge for a single hero and even a small group. The alien merger twist makes for some very interesting story possibilities. I could see running a villain player character campaign and Wisp being an excellent and fun choice to play.
