D-Percent - 100 Monstrous Trophies & Trade Goods
par Dennis S. [Testeur star] Date Ajoutée: 11/07/2011 12:23:57

This product is a single page with 100 numbered trophies and trade goods. There is basically zero fluff in this product, which is disappointing compared to the creative details offered in other products from this line, such as its Rumors product. It is just a single three-column table you would roll on to generate one of 100 trophies and trade goods, from Amphisbaena fangs to Kobold ears. It certainly is a serviceable product for what it does, but it is so unambitious compared to other products in the D-Percent line at around this price range. If it would be expanded with fluff for each item, such as what its value and use might be (why the item is desirable as a trophy or trade good) it would be worth purchasing even for $1.50 or $2. As it stands it just seems very bare-bones.

D-Percent - 100 Fantasy City Rumors and Mysteries
par Dennis S. [Testeur star] Date Ajoutée: 10/23/2011 10:01:56

This three page PDF delivers on its promise of 100 Fantasy City Rumors and Mysteries. While some of them are a little underwhelming ("GOBLINS ARE TUNNELIN' UNDER OUR WALLS") there are many, many more that are imaginative and interesting, and well worth the price of attendance. Because they are numbered, you can easily roll a couple d10s or a bonafide d100 and then just run with the randomly-generated idea. While the book claims they are city rumors, these could easily be implemented in any string of civilization. What's preventing a mad inventor from setting up shop in a sleepy little village, or a merchant's daughter from being kidnapped by purple-masked men in a tiny town? That might make things even more interesting.

Get it if you'd like a generator for random, cool and evocative adventure ideas, or if you're in need of some inspiration. It works with practically any fantasy game you can think of.

D-Percent - 100 Modern NPC Pocket Contents

This chart is excellent. I downloaded it mid-game, and used it right away. I'm so glad I did. This can really come in handy, and some of the pocket contents might even inspire the creative DM to write some more adventures based on the PCs finding them in an NPC's pocket.

I downloaded this mid-game, along with the Modern NPC Pocket Contents by the same company, and used them right away. They are excellent charts.

Some of the pocket contents might inspire creative ad-libbing DMs to assemble an unplanned adventure around one item being in an NPC's pocket.

This is one of those things that you'll have no idea you needed until you've used it. I love it.

D-Percent - 100 Character Traits
par Tim L. [Acheteur vérifié] Date Ajoutée: 09/13/2011 08:51:42

Compared to "100 Spaceship Traits", 100 Character Traits (by Black Falcon Games) is distinctly lacking. No definitions of traits, no plot ideas within those definitions. Just one page with a few pictures and a list of 100 adjectives (Helpful, Wary) you can quickly find or choose. At that level it does just fine. I'm just not sure the $0.75 price tag is too high.

D-Percent - 100 Dungeon Corpses
par Alexander L. [Testeur star] Date Ajoutée: 08/30/2011 07:09:23

Originally posted at: http://diehardgamefan.com/2011/08/30/tabletop-review-d-percent-100-dungeon-corpses/

Black Falcon Games (BFG) has a nice set of D-Percent lists out which are handy to have when either a specific “find” is not all-important or if a GM needs an extra idea or two to help stimulate the next idea or plot stream. This one is focused around those all too common corpses that are found lying around in the dungeons gamers are so fond of traipsing through. So many intrepid adventurers get themselves in over their heads, only to find themselves without one. BFG has come up with a nice list of settings, most of which are generic enough to fit into almost any campaign or dungeon delve, with a handful thrown in which might need a bit of forethought before revealing to the party. After all, finding a dead Dwarf with arrows in his chest would not be unusual, but finding a “nude female dwarf, grown freakishly large – too large to leave the area” might take a bit more massaging, or at least forethought of how it happened and what they might find when they start poking and prodding the corpse. There are a couple entries which did not make much sense to me, such as a catapult in a dungeon, again much too large to remove from the area. These could lead to good plot hooks as long as the GM has thought ahead before introducing them with the hows and whys involved. Several of these would even work for cross-genre or non-medieval settings with slight tweaks or discriminating selection. Cthulhu Cults (or chosen diety) could make their initial appearance from some of the sacrificial settings presented.

Most of these are brief, being only a sentence or less, but some give nice segues to subplots or red herrings. The writing style is as terse as expected from a two-page list detailing 100 discoveries, but easily gives enough detail for crafty or devious GMs to expand the scenes. They use a good variety of nouns and adjectives to give each entry its own personality, at least as much as you can with corpses. The graphics are minimal, yet clean. I did not see any creature types specific to unusual settings, so it would work for any Middle-Earth type dungeon romp.

Their lists would be a good addition to keep in any GM’s library. At only $1.00, it is very affordable and well worth the investment to pull out in a pinch.

D-Percent - 100 Dungeon Sounds

Black Falcon Games (BFG) has a nice set of D-Percent lists which are handy to have when either a specific “find” is not all-important or a GM needs an extra idea or two to help stimulate the next idea or plot stream. This particular one is for random sounds heard while spelunking. This list is especially handy when the specific noise heard is either not critical or incorrect. Most of the noises on here are mundane enough that they could fit any corridor or room without a major epiphany, but a few should be considered before being used. If the GM chose to use “Screeching Bird,” for example, they might want to consider why there would be one flying around 50’ underground, assuming it was what the PCs actually heard. This chart would be especially useful for failed listen (or perception) checks, particularly if the players do not know if they succeeded or failed the checks. Hearing creaking hinges might stimulate the players to consider their options, only to discover that the sounds were just figments of their imagination. As with any random event generator, the GM needs to exercise caution in introducing some of the sounds into the scenario. This could lead to nice subplots if used judiciously. Take for example hearing dogs barking, only to discover it is actually Gnolls (depending on the system used).

This is a one-sheet list consisting mostly of two-word entries. There are a few that are slightly longer, but each description typically just has an adjective and noun. Some of the options are similar, yet different enough to justify getting their own limelight. The layout is easy to use, as should be expected from a list of 100 items. The graphics are minimalistic, yet clean. This one includes a crude skeleton and a ball and chain drawing in the bottom corner in addition to the usual masonry type border they use on their other D-Percent items I’ve seen. This would be a nice list for a GM of any fantasy world to keep on hand and is especially helpful because it would not be limited to dungeon adventures. Keeping it to one page makes it convenient and accessible. It is well worth the $.75 to have this list around.

Modern Floor Plans - Pool Hall 1
par Alexander L. [Testeur star] Date Ajoutée: 08/04/2011 06:37:47

This is one of those maps that obviously has a niche usage, but what a great idea for a location. Pool halls are everywhere and as they are stereotyped as a location for ne’er do wells to hand out, this is a great thematic map that your players can go to an encounter squealers, con men, brawls and more. I love the idea behind a pool hall map and it can fit nicely into a modern era campaign, but also something set in the 1920s, the Victorian Era and even a fantasy campaign with a tiny bit of tweaking.

Black Falcon Games has included printing instructions, a full page legend for things on the map, and a full page DM reference for what the map should look like once it is fully assembled. The map itself consists of four printable pages and then four pieces of paper each showing where the previous piece should go. These four pieces are a definite waste of paper, especially since you already have a guide showing how the completed map should look. There’s no way to avoid print these four pieces out unless you print each of the four pages of the pool hall out individually, so you either get wasted ink and paper, or you have to do things pretty slowly.

The map itself is in black and white and it looks like it was quickly slapped together on graph paper like we used to do back in middle school and high school. There’s not a lot of detail to the map and without the legend, it’s hard to make out what is what, so it’s a bit non-user friendly, especially to novice gamers. Still, it is only a buck and a half and it is a pretty original location. You can always color in the map yourself if you want, or really rely on the imagination of your players. It’s definitely not something I can all aesthetically pleasing and a good DM can come up with a map on his or her own for less. I guess if you really want a pool hall and you’re not very good at map making, this is an okay option. Just remember in this day and age you can get prettier and bigger maps for roughly the same cost – just not with this specific location.

Thumbscrews? Inflated pig bladder? This download is delightful fun. I can't wait until I have an excuse to add some of this color in on my group of adventurers. Many of these items aren't going to fit until a pocket, but that makes the list useful for fulling up those random pouches that an npc might have, as well as haversack-type bags.

D-Percent - 100 Fantasy Market Foodstuffs
par Melinda F. [Acheteur vérifié] Date Ajoutée: 07/13/2011 11:35:44

Basically this pdf is just a listing of 100 different types of food. Maybe it's because I have a family that I need to cook for - and I enjoy trying new recipes out on them - but the listing didn't seem very imaginative. I was pretty disappointed with this purchase, giving them 2 stars simply because they came up with 100 different vegetables, cheeses, and meats. Definitly no fantasy involved, unless it's the climate that would grow all these disparate items in one area.
