Fantasy Sagas Game Master Starter [BUNDLE]
by Robert Z. I. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 07/26/2013 16:07:57

The rule system is intimidating and without the online resources of other systems. I think that the system has great potential but appears to be unfinished. It attempts to simulate simultaneous actions, but it makes the system complex to the point that my group found it too cumbersome. With a tutorial or group of experienced players, I imagine the system could work well, unfortunately it seems to lack any sort of a gaming community.

Bite of the Lindworm
by Sean H. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 09/25/2010 21:51:52

Bite of the Lindworm: A Sidetrack Adventure for the Fantasy Sagas Role-Playing Game is a 21-page PDF (20 pages if you remove the cover) written by Ruel Knudson and published by Ironwood Omnimedia Company.

The layout is standard, single column with a very nice table of contents. The only art is the cover art and full-color Dundjinni generated maps at the end of this product.

Bite of the Lindworm is a sidetrack, a short single session adventure to be run as needed without being part of a grand plot, though some -like this one- may have lasting effects on a campaign. It is designed to easily fit into an area of hills or mountains but can be easily adapted for other terrain.

It is a straightforward adventure, as one would expect, beginning with the character finding the aftermath of an attack by an infected wolf and being drawn into dealing with it (with suggestions in case the players would rather avoid the situation).

In any case the characters will, sooner or later, run into the causes of all, the Lindworm which is an unusual creature as it does not fight to kill but to wound relying upon its poison and disease laden teeth to kill its prey for later consumption. Character wounded by the Lindworm will have to cope with the horrors that the mix of poison and disease bring. Finding the cure for which may well extend well beyond this adventure. Some suggestions for further use of Lindworms is included.

This product does just what it sets out to do, provides an interesting short adventure that can lead into other challenges. Though it does seem a little expensive for its short length.

Disclosure: As a featured reviewer for RPGNow/DriveThruRPG, I received my copy of this product for free from the publisher for the purpose of this review.

Bite of the Lindworm

Nothing like an infected corpse to get players wondering what the GM is up to, and they'd be right to worry. I suspect the party will think hard before volunteering for any future "dragon-slaying". Includes some well-considered combat and skill effects that you won't often see in the world's most popular fantasy game.

DPnP Output Demo: Iron Wood Region
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 07/31/2009 09:35:50

It is difficult to comment on this without seeing the software that created it - this looks like the sort of notes a reasonably organised and computerate DM is going to have in his files. So what's so special?

I'm guessing here - but as a database specialist in 'real life' - that the key is an underlying bank of information that can be used to generate appropriate statistics for characters, towns, price lists, etc.; but most of what is presented is 'flavour text' and that you just, er, write. A super-organised person might put it in a database, but even as a professional database programmer I'm not sure just what advantage that might give you.

Don't get me wrong - I shall be interested to see this software when it's launched. But this demo fails completely to give me an idea of what it is capable of doing for me. Something like screenshots of data entry and selection screens showing the process from inputting your raw material to getting the finished printout would have given a clearer idea of its capabilities and user-friendliness.

Guess I'll have to wait for the real thing to find out. As a 'demo' or 'taster' this, I'm afraid, just doesn't do the job.

The Fantasy Sagas: Player's Guidebook
by j. w. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 06/16/2007 20:16:22

I suppose its hard to come on to a playing field full of major players and expect to be taken seriously right off the bat. With the overwhelming presence of the mainline RPG systems out there, it might be easy to over look this one. But you should give it a test run. This system seems to take into account all those things you'd want to change about your current RPG and makes those changes. It enables a wider variety of player actions in a logical way. This book is about 175 pages but the actual guts of the rules is only a small percentage of that so the initial learning curve isn't so bad. And that's the problem with most new system... once you get over that speed bump you can enjoy the system.

The Fantasy Sagas Paradigm
by Ralph P. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 06/13/2007 11:55:32

Don't know anything about the E-RPG system, then make sure to go check out 'The Fantasy Sagas: Player's Guidebook' and its accompanying review. If you've done that then you are ready to hear about 'The Fantasy Sagas Paradigm.' This is a book that every system should have come out with. A collection of starting character's that can be used as either player characters or non-player characters. A truly must have for anyone starting out in the E-RPG system. This book not only has some well done artwork, though still in black and white, but comes with character sheets already filled out for all the classes mentioned in the book. Tommy wants to join in and be a figher, but the session's tonight. Print the ready made character sheet for the Knights Errant and he's ready to go. Need a evil necromancer to lead the party of skeleton's they players are fighitng. Print the Necromancer sheet and simply add skills to make him as strong as you need him. It is truly an excellent addition to anyones E-RPG bookshelf.

The Fantasy Sagas: Player's Guidebook
by Ralph P. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 06/13/2007 11:46:03

System

The E-RPG system is a unique system that more than any other system available truly does allow the player’s to attempt anything they may wish. With such versatility, is the price of time. Unlike other systems the E-RPG system breaks down each action into a matter of rounds. So that such things as drawing your sword cost three rounds, while casting a spell for someone who is untrained will cost about fourteen. Of course, the system is designed so that the more skill one possesses in a particular area, the quicker and more efficient one can complete the attempted task. So that should the party’s ‘War Mage’ become unconscious, the fighter could flounder through the spell scroll, though at a much slower pace. This also give you unlimited use of the spells at ones command, but again time is the largest factor you will face.

Look

The E-RPG system ‘Players Guide Book’ is rather plain with no pictures or even borders around the pages. This is done with a purpose not filling the player’s heads with what their characters or world they build using the system should or shouldn’t look like. At first this may seem without merit, but in the end it truly allows you to build your games, and yes you will play many with this system, with your imagination. Without pictures or borders the book is easy on the printer, especially since its initial offering is in PDF format and those without a laptop will have to print it out to take it to game session.
