Untold Primer

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Untold is a revolutionary new role-playing game (RPG) from Ignitus Innovation designed to combine all the best elements of Role Playing Games (RPG's) and Collectible Card Games (CCG's) and toss the rest. Untold is a CBRPG (TM): Card-Based Role Playing Game. It is exactly the same as any other RPG, but the primary physical "tools" of the game are different. Instead of rulebooks and character sheets, the only "tools" you need in Untold are cards!

That's right - only cards - cards which are used to construct characters, represent their skills, abilities, items, powers and moves, as well as contain all of the rule/mechanics references necessary to play the game! In Untold, there are no rulebooks, gazetteers, or guides to purchase, read and try to remember. Your character is a deck of cards - and all the rules that filled a library full of books before is now on a set of beautifully illustrated cards! All you need to play Untold is a deck and a die!

Untold was created to be fast, flexible, furious, and fun. The game is amazingly fast when you want to build and change characters - a task that can now be done in seconds thanks to the modular card-based system as well as the unique card swapping mechanics. Combat in Untold is especially furious and visceral thanks to the unique way damage is accounted for - something called "Downgrading". The underlying task of Untold's designers has been to take the toil out of playing RPGs and put the fun back in. As such, every single thing the guys over at Wandering Men Studios have done during the development of Untold has been driven by this maxim.

No rulebook - then what is this you ask? It is a prime - a guide - it provides examples of the cards, how to read information on them, how to build characters, and how to run a game as a game master. Once you have used the Primer a couple times, you probably won't need it again. All the rules really are on the cards.

And if you don't want to read the primer, we have also developed a web based rules reference and video demonstrations as well.

In order to play Untold all you need is a deck of cards and a d20 - that's it, we promise. But don't worry: this isn't another collectable card game because we tell you every card in every deck we sell. Only buy the cards and the decks you want because with Untold you don't have buy every deck to get the ultra-rare and cool powers. With Untold less is more.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
