100 Dungeon Entrances

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Dungeons require a method of entering and, hopefully, leaving them. The larger a dungeon complex is, the more and more varied the number and range of its entrances may be. This supplement has 100 different entrances for a dungeon. Some are in plain sight; others are hidden. Some are normal; others are magical and could be found anywhere. They can be used to enhance an existing, undescribed, dungeon entrance, or as a new way into the dungeon, perhaps into a new part of it.

This PDF supports Adobe layers and the page backgrounds and images can be disabled to make printing easier.

Here are some sample results:

  • A small bathing pool in a bathhouse appears to be totally normal, but the pool has a magical effect if the right combination of oils is added to the water. Entering the water after adding them results in those in the pool being teleported into the dungeon.
  • A small spur on a river, only a few dozen feet long, has lock gates on one end of it. When the gates are shut, a mechanism will activate and the level of the water in the spur will drop, and anything in the water will gradually be lowered into the ground, where they will be deposited in an underground waterway.
  • A vertical mineshaft leads down into the ground. A now-rickety wooden lift can be used to raise and lower things into the shaft, which meets up with part of the dungeon network.
  • An abandoned farmhouse stands in the centre of some overgrown fields, the roof collapsed inwards and the walls damaged. If the inside is searched, a trapdoor can be found in the floor, leading down to a cellar. One wall of the cellar has a tunnel crudely hacked into it, leading to the dungeon.
  • An enormous face has been carved into the face of a cliff. The mouth is slightly open, and a hidden mechanism will cause it to open wide enough for a human-sized being to stand upright. Heading down the throat that is now revealed is a set of stairs descending into the dungeon.

One page is the front cover, one the front matter and one is ads.

The supplement is also available in the following versions: Castles & Crusades and Pathfinder. You do not need all versions.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
