Mummy: The Curse Second Edition

I wield the might of gods, the powers of the elements, control over the living and the dead, and yet I cannot tell you my name. It is unknown to me, in a darkened corner of my memory, and I do not know when illumination shall reach me.

I awoke in this ancient tomb, a crack in its roof introducing fresh air for the first time in what feels like centuries. At my feet, three broken bodies. I vaguely recall shattering them with my fists, or maybe it was with my roar. They disturbed me; now they are dead.

What I know is that gods unimaginable to the rank and file of mortality alternate between goading, tempting, cajoling, and encouraging me. They want me to wake from my slumber, seek out their vessels of power, and return them to the land of the dead, where I might sleep again.

I creak and pop my way into motion, Sekhem fusing and pulsating in my desiccated body — my sahu — and I take in my surroundings. Writings on the walls in languages long forgotten, but slowly returning to my mind. They tell me what I am.

I am a mummy. I am Arisen. I have awoken to serve, but as a god among mortals, I will be worshiped. I will live again. My memory shall return, my power shall wane, and at the end of the tale, I will know all.

I feel hungry mouths approaching my shattered tomb. The time for contemplation is over. I may know my name tomorrow, but before then I will feel the spatter of blood on my skin and the splitting of flesh and bone between my fingers.

Mummy: The Curse includes:

  • Everything you need to run or play Mummy: The Curse, a game of timeless horror and multiple eras of mystery.
  • A deep setting of Iremite history and society, delving into the world of the Arisen and other immortals, sorcerers, and cultists.
  • Powers ranging from the cosmic to the subtle, all at the beck and call of this game’s protagonists.
  • A plethora of horrifying foes, from Blood Bathers to Body Thieves, Lifeless Shuankhsen to chimerical Amkhata, and many more.
  • Comprehensive storytelling advice to make Mummy accessible and enthralling to everyone from their first session.

Is this version of Mummy compatible with Vampire 20th anniversary edition or the other 20th editions?

No. It's for Chronicles of Darkness, not World of Darkness.

Pretty awesome that the game I ran for Onyx Path Con is featured here. This one was a lot of fun. There is a second video up for those interested from when I was part of Gehenna Gaming as part of the Contagion Chronicle.

Mummy the Curse 2e is a game and system I adore and encourage fans of TTRPG to explore the themes and narratives within. I guarantee this game has unique and memorable experiences you and your friends can weave together. Matthew Dawkins and the team who worked on this should be extremely proud.

Out of curiosity, just how much has changed, in terms of lore, between editions?

Well that's a big question! The Timeless aspect is a large change from edition to edition, along with the integration of immortals and sorcerers into mummy cults, some aspects of the Nameless Empire have been made clearer, while others have been made more nebulous. There's a "where I read" thread about Mummy on the RPGnet forum right now, so it might be worth checking it out if you don't want to buy the PDF and have a read yourself.

Any chance you could provide a link to that thread?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
