A rainbow of flickering colors dances across the night sky. Turning, you shamble off into the jumble of cloud towers amid the glow. With an effort of willpower you float over thegaping chasm of softrock and steel. Your large, webbed feet paddle the air slowly.

Tame the wild frontiers of Gamma Terra in the GAMMA WORLD post-holocaust science-fantasy game!

• Play a pure strain human or a mutated human, animal or plant with wild and unique powers.

• Find and master the artifacts of the ancients.

• Survive encounters with the mutant horrors that stalk the land.

• Revised 4th edition rules emphasize clarity and elegant game mechanics.

• Includes complete campaign background with a color campaign map.

• Features new character classes: enforcers, espers, examiners, and scouts.

This digital edition includes the PDF version of the book, and a ZIP file containing printable JPGs of the campaign map.

Slightly dissapointed that the PDF has no bookmarks and it's security protected so I can't add my own.

The older editions being made available through pod would induce tears of joy.

For those interested the POD edition is a nice, clean copy and easy to read.

It would be nice if they made this game line available for fans to create and release material for it through the Dungeon Masters Guild (

Fourthed (fourthded? ;) )

And, maybe, the rights to adapt this universe to D&D Fifth edition.

Yup. I'd been waiting for and requesting this particular for quite awhile.
Did not expect it to ever happen. Or at least thought they'd publish the previous three editions first again.

As an old Marvel Super Hero RPGer I sill have a soft place in my heart (and possibly head) for 3rd edition Gamma World, with the Universal Table. I know, I'm weird. And of course that brought us the great Alpha-Epsilon series.

I know it was published for a different edition, but this makes me hopeful we might also see a reprint of The Albuquerque Starport some day.

Anyone know what the scan quality of the product is?

Brought both the PDF & Print, will be a while before the print gets to me, but the PDF is pretty good. I don't regret buying it!

Is this game a D20 game?
Customer avatar
David L July 18, 2018 12:20 am UTC
Many Gamma World fans have called this edition the true "very first" D20 game.

The scan is good.

The bummer is that there are no bookmarks. Publishers really need to not secure the PDF if they are not going to put bookmarks in.

You are absolutely correct. That said, a Google search might reveal useful web-based tools.

It is not D20. Gamma World 4th Edition is sort of like a weird "missing link" between AD&D 2ed and D&D 3ed:

Skills checks and Attribute checks are treated as different creatures. The roll made is:

Success if: d20 + Difficulty rating ≤ Skill (or Attribute score)

Which is pretty close to the same probability as:
Success if: d20 + Skill (or Attribute score) ≥ Difficulty rating +10

There are other kind of oddball things about it too, but it's a significant step closer to unified mechanics than 2ed was.

The scan quality is quite good, so much so that I would say WotC needs to go back and have whoever converted this to .pdf go and work on the first 100 pages of the d20 Modern rules that was horribly processed.

Scan quality is excellent and the POD version looks great.

I don't suppose the First and Second editions of Gamma World will be released to .PDF?
Customer avatar
Thomas S July 19, 2018 10:42 pm UTC
I second this inquiry. Is 1st edition Gamma World out of the question?

As long as there is a market for pdf and pod books, I would imagine that Wizards will continue to put them out because that’s virtually no overhead for them.

Add another hoping for 1st/2nd Edition scans. And it's the 40th Anniversary...

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
