This book is very beautiful. The artwork is gorgeous, and it has a better layout than N.E.W. Looking forward to adding the future PoD hardback to my shelf.

Any chance of providing a real preview? This is just the first 12 pages of the book. I think a preview should show something of the rules. Example alchemy or herbalism. Even pregen characters of varying degrees of power would give a potential buyer some idea of why OLD is special. The glossary does provide an inkling of what the core mechanic is like, so that's positive. I would just like to see a little more. Thank you.

Charlie, see the reply to GeoCentric D, below. It will be available as a hardcover, yes, but not until after all the Kickstarter backers have gotten their copies. Those are shipping worldwide now, but can take a little time.

how many of the WOIN fantasy books are covered by/rolled-up into OLD?
Is there any difference between getting OLD vs. WOIN Fantasy Core + Elements of Magic + Fantasy Careers + Fantasy Equipment + Fantasy Worldbuilding (other than price!)

I've printed and spiral bound the other six PDFs.
Are there any changes/errata from those six into this one?
Also, will this be available her as PoD?

Some minor errata, but nothing major - all those books were errated before being compiled. It will be available as a hardcover, yes, but not until after all the Kickstarter backers have gotten their copies. Those are shipping worldwide now, but can take a little time.

If you look at the N.E.W. errata on the official WOIN site, that was applied to the O.L.D. hardcover, but wasn't in the original chapter releases.

Given some of the reviews N.E.W. got I was kind of interested on the system adopted to fantasy. That was till a friend alerted me to some issues that he knew hit right at home with me, namely the detail on combat stats. He actually told me that a dagger does exactly the same damage (2d6 piercing) as a short sword and a scimitar, with absolutely no advantage whatsoever of this weapons over the lighter and easily hidden weapon.

Is this the same "approach" to detail in O.L.D. ?

Increased damage is primarily derived from the character's exploits, skills, and tactics in combat, not the weapon itself, with the many weapons distinguished by damage types and traits. Base weapon damage ranges from 2d6 to 4d6, generally (a longword is 3d6+2 slashing damage). Some weapons offer initiative or defensive bonuses, or have other traits.

Thank you for the feed-back Russ. The doubt remains though. Is there ANY difference between a dagger and a short-sword and/or a scimitar in O.L.D. or are they treated in the same way as in N.E.W., and as such, in effect, they do the same damage and there is nothing to differentiate what is clearly different?

    Russ M April 10, 2017 10:02 am UTC
They both do the usual minimum of 2d6 damage for a bladed weapon. They have different weights, sizes, traits, and damage types. The damage amount is dependent on how many attack dice the attacker spends on damage, as well as the number of skill ranks in the weapon type.

If they have different damage type and that actually implies a different damage (as in weapon vs armor mechanics) that´s already something, and also different from N.E.W., where the damage type is the same and the only trait diference between dagger, short-sword and scimitar is that the two later have none (trait that is), and Dagger has one. The fact that they had different weights and sizes and that doesn´t translate to anything positive it´s one of the reasons I "dislike" this approach, after all if they do the same damage why on earth would I choose to carry a bigger, weightier and more visible weapon when I can just hide a dagger and use it for the same effect?!?

Anyway thank your for the answers, even if in the end this lack of detail just ain´t for me, sadly.

    Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
    Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
