Vehicle Handbook

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Universes of science fiction are filled with vehicles ranging from the mundane to the exotic. A starport on a world far beyond the frontier may see a mix of pedal-powered rickshaws, horse-drawn wagons and anti-grav skimmers. A high-tech centralised and industrial world will have skies filled with the anti-grav equivalent of cars, trucks and buses, while its military will be able to deploy armoured tanks who can withstand bombardment from spacecraft in orbit above them. All of these, and many more, can be created with the Vehicle Handbook.

The Vehicle Handbook has been designed to be quick and easy to use, whether your Travellers are looking to quickly upgrade or modify their humble air/raft, or construct a massive battle-ready walker armed with city-crushing weaponry from scratch. Even a large, multi-turreted super-heavy battle tank will not take much longer than five minutes’ work.

The Vehicle Handbook comes complete with an immense catalogue filled with vehicles built using this system, allowing you to dive straight in and begin populating your worlds with vehicles the Travellers can ride, purchase and fight against.

Peace. I'm not out to offend anyone, just making a plea for pricing sanity.

Likewise.
With that 'spam' reply, I thought I was being 'trolled', so to speak. (I received it 3 times!).
I'm not saying the product is bad; but like you, some pricing can be rather 'shocking', so to speak.

The options I stated on March 7th were just some options myself and other players I know, would sometimes try, if something similar was out of our price range.
It was NOT meant as some sort of 'advertising' of products; merely a suggestion.
£24.01 for 152 pages might be OK (affordable), for some.

I noticed some others below also made slightly similar statements, but had no reply of 'spam'.
Strange.

Gypsy Knight Games and Stellagama are looking better than the price this PDF (£40.06, down to £24.03).
Also Stygian Fox have some pretty good Sci-fi stuff.
Dare I say Cepheus Engine.
Add this and the 3 above: still seems cheaper.

This is essentially spam. People can make their own minds up about what they are willing to spend on a product. You've merely convinced me to avoid these products you have listed.

An Early Machinegun weighs 14 tons and takes up 1 space. Them's some dense bullets, no doubt.

Dum Dums, judging by the PDF price (pardon the pun).

Battle dress options are more the territory of central supply catalog. It does have walkers (some of which remind me a bit too much of mechwarrior, but thats a good thing). As for cost, yeah it's a bit high but the options are pretty good for those who really like to tinker. If someone made a good spreadsheet/program for this book, that would be incredible.

There is a plan, I believe to expand on the RPGSuite software - Traveller's character generation software - to be able to design spaceships and vehicles, electronically, based on the rules found in these books. May happen this year, hopefully.

At this price, Mongoose is making it very clear they want nobody to by their pdfs. Instead of taunting people with such outrageous pricing, they should just not offer the pdf versions.

my question is
Will this be another beta like High Guard 2, where the book version does not show up for nearly a year after the pdf hits the market and there are updates to the pdf?
and 30$ for a 152 page pdf
that sounding more like a real book
not moved around and annoyed electrons

Getting expensive! To buy only the .pdf of this supplement, I would have to pay nearly 20 cents U.S. per page. The Traveller Core Rulebook was about 12-1/2 cents per page of .pdf.
As a comparison, the Shadowrun 5th-ed. Rulebook comes in at under 4 cents per page of .pdf.
Is it perhaps because of profuse artwork?

Shadowrun 5th is an older game. Traveller 2nd edition is pretty new.

Well, let's compare with a new SF release: CORIOLIS, $24.94 for 388 pages. You're charging more than that for half the pages. Maybe I'll have "fun" with something else.

Hell MT2.0 costs the same(not coubting GM sale which this book is not part of)and is 90 pages more in content

Mongoose this may be my last purchase
you are pricing yourselves out of my wallet
GKG and Stellagama are much better priced products

CORIOLIS is just a johnny-come-lately sci-fi setting with a house system that offers not a lot for me that is new or interesting enough to shake my purchasing habits away from Traveller. You can pick and choose what you want to play, but if you are making your choice simply based on page count, may I recommend a telephone directory.

so how would you compare it's worth when you have not even purchased the product
what we have are items already cover from the main book (already paid for)
added rules to build and mod simular stuff
in effect chargen for vehicles

whether rules suck or not (2ed MT v Coriolis) would be 1 factor
Completness of a product is something I look for(MT2ed you suck at this badly MT1ed at least had adventure class ship building)
Pricing I expect a company to be consistant(a book 2/3 the size of the main rules should not cost as much as the main rules)

Rory H, I'm comparing MT2 vs MT2(it is loosing badly)

I have purchased the product via mongoose directly, rather than through drivethru although I pick up the pdf from here. I also happen to know that when presented to our group, they immediately put Vehicles to use and clearly enjoyed the visual representation and design system in the game. If I bought Coriolis it would merely be gathering dust, or at least e-dust, by now. Other companies vary their costs from core to supplement too. Savage Worlds, who use the same Studio 2 Publishing as Mongoose do, actually double the price for their supplements over the cost of their core rules. All companies have to work out their own overheads and profit margins. As a consumer, however, I merely need to make a judgment as to what I am willing to pay. The various arguments given here, however are pointless. I don't want to buy Coriolis or any other game mentioned here. I want to buy Traveller, I can afford the books and I can make up my own mind about their value, in the same way that Mongoose's marketing team can work out if...See more

Except that you are comparing the sales of the Coriolis core rules to just one of a very long line of Traveller supplements. Do you not see the Platinum figures for Traveller core? Hee hee. Or, more to the point - WHO CARES!?!

Oh, and you are above being a fan of anything eh? Ah, how cute. Allow me to clarify, then. Nobody cares about stupid criticisms and pointless comparisons from people that just have a chip on their shoulder, and want to promote other products that nobody cares about here, out of spite. We'll just keep buying Traveller products regardless. Have a nice day.

Traveller .pdf prices are still too high, like hardcopy for a normal game. You can't excuse that.

You're a stuck record. Mongoose can charge what the hell they like for their products. People can choose to pay or not. Mongoose are under no obligation to alter their prices, beyond the pressures of their own bank balance. End if story.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
