Sundown

ADD TO WISHLIST >

It's easy to feel alone as the shadows gather and the pale moon rises over the High Plains. The Apache say that on nights like this, the cold wind from the prairie has a mind of its own - a malignant chill, born of the darkness, which eats at your warmth, and steals all compassion.

It was a night like that when Barton Duvall rode into Tombstone. A night like that when they found what was left of little Alina Hundle - the few sad remains, barely recognizable, that Barton had left for her family to bury. And, it was a night like that when you realised that justice was more than a word bandied around by fearful shopkeepers - it was a necessity.

The year is 1880, and the posse is forming.

Sundown is a short Call of Cthulhu adventure set in the Old West and intended to be run in a single night of play, or in a three-hour convention round and was written to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Call of Cthulhu.  8 Pre-generated characters are provided.

My gaming group loved this adventure and they still talk about some of the events that happened while playing the pregens: poor Jerry Willis' injuries grew at an alarming exponential rate, and the saloon madam kept hitting her comrades when shooti [...]

An interesting scenario that gives a feel of a western movie. Keepers beware, this scenario leans much more into Pulp elements than it seems to into Classic'thulu. Another thing, it seems like the author intended it to be run with large groups, wh [...]

Cthulhu Wild West... without the spaghetti. Yes, it's gritty. Yes, it's deadly. Yes, it is a fine intro to CoC in the old west.... not the Clint Eastwood Spaghetti Western Old West... but the Old West... grim, gritty... violent sometimes.... This is [...]

This is an excellent one-shot adventure, and one certainly can't quibble with the price. Production values are pretty good, and the plot, though it tends to force the players into a specific path, has some variability in it allowing for certain side ad [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
