Herbalist Shop

A small wooden bench sits beneath a covered portico providing a welcome entry into the Herbalist's Shop.  A large window provides a glimpse of the well stocked shelves spilling over with bundles of herbs, small bags of powders and tiny jars of unguents.  Inside the shop, the senses are thrilled by the strong smells of rare spices and pungent odors of exotic mixtures.  The smiling face of Chaga Baba greets each customer, and she takes great pride in seeing to the distinct needs of every visitor.  There are few concoctions that she does not have on hand or that she cannot provide after a few days of preparation.  The more precious of her wares are kept locked up beneath the center counter and are available for inspection upon request.

Adjacent to the shop is Chaga's workroom, which is a highly organized and orderly space.  There are implements used for each process of the curing and preparing of spices, oils, incense, and powders.  Drying racks cover virtually every wall and the fireplace is lined with bubbling pots reducing a variety of agents into usable forms.

Behind the workroom is Chaga's extensive garden.  The orderly rows of herbs and plants are lovingly tended to by her skilled hands throughout the day.  Birds, bees and butterflies populate the garden area in abundant quantities.  There is a small yet deep well in one corner of the stone walled yard and a tiny privy far away in the opposite corner.  Chaga Baba resides in a tiny residence tucked into the rear of the property where she can observe her garden in relative comfort.

Arsenale Shipworks renders its maps in black and white with simple, yet detailed line drawings.  Our idea is to give you a thought provoking and inspiring encounter location without draining every drop of ink from your printer.  The relatively small file size also makes our maps ideal for importing into virtual tabletops!

This map is designed with a 1" grid suitable for use with most 25mm - 28mm miniatures and RPG game systems and is set up to print on 11"x17" sheet size.  Since most people don't have access to large format printers, we are also including two additional files that divide the map into two 8 ½" x 11" sheets.  These sheets are designed with a small overlap in the middle to facilitate cutting or folding in order to join the two sheets.  Furthermore, three identical maps have been included with the labels and text turned off to make it easy for you to customize your own unique encounter location.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
