Verpa's Shrine

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The faithful devotees of the fertility goddess Verpa pack this small temple on her feast days and during birthing celebrations.  A stone relief of the goddess reclining amidst a bountiful harvest and tended to by myriad young animals and children adorns the area above the front entry portico.

This modest shrine is built out of alternating bands of white and green stone giving it a very unique appearance.  The central portion of the building is a large circle capped with a delicate dome pierced with many small slots that allow shafts of light inside to illuminate the interior during the day and create a spectacularly illuminated effect on the exterior of the dome at night.  There is a covered portico for the devout to congregate outside while being protected from inclement weather.  A pair of bronze doors opens into a small vestibule typically filled with the fragrance of powerful incense.  The large circular sanctuary is punctuated by an intricately carved statue of the shrine's patron deity and is flanked on either side by alcoves that house sacrificial alters.  Behind a richly decorated tapestry is a tabernacle that houses an intimate prayer bed.  Down either side of the tabernacle are small steps that lead to the Priestess' chamber and the Eunuch's chamber.

Arsenale Shipworks renders its maps in black and white with simple, yet detailed line drawings.  Our idea is to give you a thought provoking and inspiring encounter location without draining every drop of ink from your printer.

This map is designed with a 1" grid suitable for use with most 25mm - 28mm miniatures and RPG game systems and is set up to print on 11"x17" sheet size.  Since most people don't have access to large format printers, we are also including two additional files that divide the map into two 8 ½" x 11" sheets.  These sheets are designed with a small overlap in the middle to facilitate cutting or folding in order to join the two sheets.  Furthermore, three identical maps have been included with the labels and text turned off to make it easy for you to customize your own unique encounter location.

Detailed without being cluttered and looks great when printed. Thanks for including the labeled and unlabeled versions. [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
