WWI/Pre-Dread Core Rules

Naval Thunder: Clash of Dreadnoughts is an exciting, fast paced naval miniatures wargame that brings all the excitement of big-gun naval combat to your tabletop.

Newcomers will appreciate how straight-forward and easy to learn the basic system is, while naval wargaming veterans can take advantage of the optional rule system to add additional layers of detail to the game.

Naval Thunder has been designed from the keel up to be fun, fast paced, and full of flavor so that you can focus on the thrill of commanding a ship or fleet at sea instead of tedious charts or calculations. The fast and exciting shooting and damage resolution system ensures that you can attack with an entire division of battleships in just a couple minutes. A battle involving a dozen battleships and battlecruisers on each side can be fought to a conclusion in a couple hours, in a fast and furious exciting play experience that offers enormous tactical depth.

The robust optional rules system allows the game to grow with you as you gain experience - ensuring that Naval Thunder will be your naval miniatures system of choice for years to come. There are more than 20 completely modular optional rules that allow you to model historically accurate factors influencing naval combat of the era. You can pick and choose which rules to include allowing you to tailor the pace of play and level of detail to your personal preference.

Just a few examples of the kinds of historically accurate details you can add to the game include:

* Poor quality British shells shattered instead of penetrating heavy armor
*Poor cordite flash precautions in turrets that resulted in ships exploding spectacularly
*The impact of historical commanders
*Crew training levels
*The influence of wind direction on gunnery
*Using submarines to soften up your opponent's battlefleet

Also included are optional shortcuts that allow you to use Naval Thunder: Clash of Dreadnoughts to run huge fleet actions in a fraction of time other systems would take.

Included with the rules are data cards for 80 classes of ship, representing hundreds of historical vessels, allowing you to model nearly any action between the Royal Navy and Kaiserliche Marine during WWI.

Naval Thunder: Clash of Dreadnoughts consists of several files. The rules file (previewed below) clearly explains and provides examples for all the basic and optional rules. Also included as separate files are the data cards, play aids (including quick reference sheets), and an optional MS Excel tool for even faster printing of data cards.

Naval Thunder: Clash of Dreadnoughts is not a "once and done" release for Steel Dreadnought Games. The first expansion, Rise of the Battleship, covers the Russo-Japanese War and is already available. Gamers can look forward to ongoing support with future supplements including additional fleets, scenarios, a campaign system, and a fully compatible sister set of releases covering WWII.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
