Adamant Entertainment is proud to present the first setting book for The Imperial Age, our line of Victorian/Steampunk products, made for use with d20 Modern or Past.

Benjamin Disraeli, Prime Minister of Great Britain, once referred to India as “the chief jewel of the imperial crown.†The Imperial Age: British India is a regional supplement for Imperial Age campaigns, covering the history, cultures, and governments of British India during the 1880s and 1890s.

A complete guide to the subcontinent is included, detailing the territories that made up the British Raj and its surrounding neighbors. Reprinted in full is a genuine Imperial Age document, the 1893 edition of Constable's Hand Atlas of India, featuring 16 pages of detailed period maps.

An Imperial Age Indian timeline is included as well as a glossary of terms specific to British India. The Game Master Characters and Creatures sections follow, featuring archetypal NPCs for the period, as well as a collection of supernatural creatures from Indian myth. The supplement is completed by a list of period weapons and a collection of new Feats.

Most Victorian Age games give a paragraph or two about India, which is too bad really. Victoria herself was known as the "Empress of India". A good overview of the British involvement in India is given. Again, this is not a textbook, b [...]

I was disappointed to discover that the product description had been deceptive, and that the "Constable's Hand Atlas of India", rather than being "reprinted in full" as advertised, was only briefly excerpted here. I later lea [...]

I concur with the previous reviewers points, except I'm not so much wed on the insistence on a Kipling reference. The man was after all, a bloody racist, or should I say "Imperialist." I have rated this pdf with four stars because it's the be [...]

This is the first setting book for the Imperial Age line, and a good choice. Its importance to the world of the setting and the literature that makes it endure cannot be overstated. Succinct yet useful sections on history, society and geography come fi [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
