The Fantastic Science: A Technologist Sourcebook

The Fantastic Science: A Technologist Sourcebook

ZIP File

Magic and technology have a complex relationship in Fantasy d20 games, and seldom are both powerful in any given setting, since the ideals of modern science can clash with the style of fantasy roleplaying. In these pages, however, you will find an entirely new spellcasting tradition that wields elaborate technology and commands the laws of fantasy pseudo-science, designed to let this particular brand of science make sense in the hands of classic sword-and-sorcery adventurers. The Fantastic Science presents hundreds of devices of varying power levels, from clockwork-and-alchemy gadgets to reality-warping artifacts, as well as a 20-level base class, the technologist, which is designed to take advantage of these technological wonders.

The Fantastic Science – A Technologist Sourcebook is a 165 page sourcebook for Fantasy D20 (with a rules appendix including variants for Modern games). The 24-page teaser, usable as a stand-alone product, is available for free download at the E.N. Publishing home page.

Dust off the ol' atomic discombobulator. Ready your portable zoogrammaphone. Slip into your cross-phasic cloak. The Fantastic Science is here.

(Contains separate print and screen versions. If you're interested in more technological fantasy sourcebooks, check out Steam & Steel and Mechamancy: The Clockwork Magic.)

The introductory section on integrating technologism into a fantasy setting was much broader and more thought-provoking than I expected, reminiscent of some of Malhavoc Press' world-building supplements. However, it remains a niche product that provide [...]

One of the best d20 supplements ever produced, period. Easily on par with books like WotC's Book of Nine Swords or Expanded Psionics Handbook. The only complaint I have is that there isn't a proper setting to go with it, but it's designed to be added [...]

This is THE sourcebook for those who want quasi-science gadgetry and alternative technology in their fantasy campaigns. Honestly, if you can't find what you need in this book (or can't see your way to creating what you need through this book) t [...]

An excellent resource for quasi-magical technology. It uses the idea of science that doesn't work well with magic (though several options allows DMs to change this easily). The example devices are basically divided up between alchemy (inject people to [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
