Trinity: Alien Encounter 2: Deception

ADD TO WISHLIST >

We Come in Peace

Despite years of interactions with the Qin race, their intentions toward humanity remain a mystery. Similarly, with only recent contact, the true motives of the alien Coalition are also clouded in doubt. The time has come for humanity to discover the truth behind each alien race's interest in Earth.

But do the Aliens?

Deception is the final installment of the two-part Alien Encounter adventure series that explores the Trinity Universe's enigmatic — and often dangerous — alien races, as characters investigate the odd Qin and the malevolent Coalition. Comprehensive source material also gives Storytellers plenty of information about the aliens, which can be used for many different scenarios.

Deception includes:

  • Two complete adventures usable for any Trinity series
  • Revealing source material on the alien Qin and Coalition races
  • Events that will shape the fate of the Trinity Universe!

Hidden Lore

Release: Originally published in July 1999, Deception is the second part of the Alien Encounter duology, which in combination with Darkness Revealed, explored much of Trinity's metaplot. While the previous book's two scenarios focused predominantly on the Chromatics, this book's scenes are split between the enigmatic Qin and their homeworld of Qinshui, and the shadowy Coalition, who have sought out an alliance with Aberrants and have now turned their eyes on Earth.

The editor is listed as "Assneck von Buttmuch XII," making the fifth consecutive Trinity book which either uses or references a pseudonym for its editor.

Released the same month as the Aberrant rulebook, Deception was the final Trinity book to use separate color in-character sections and out-of-character black-and-white sections. Future books would be entirely black-and-white.

Cover: The cover by David Seeley depicts characters embroiled in the events of the first scenario, in the section set on the Qin homeworld. Bizarre Qin biosuits and biotech structures surround them.

New Edition

Onyx Path's latest edition of Trinity, Trinity Continuum: Æon, goes into detail on the Qin and their homeworld in Distant Worlds, and covers the Coalition in Under Alien Skies.

The campaigns in this book are divided neatly into two halves: the great half and the abhorrent half. The good: Alien Encounter: Deception frontloads its content with an engaging Star Trek-esque adventure negotiating the twists [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
