Pirate's Guide to Freeport

Freeport is Green Ronin's signature city setting and has been home to thousands of RPG campaigns since its launch in 2000. Classic fantasy elements, cruel-hearted pirates, and Lovecraftian horror come together in the rum-fueled metropolis known as the City of Adventure. Now a new era is beginning. The Pirate's Guide to Freeport is the definitive new sourcebook for the City of Adventure, set 5 years after the events of the original Freeport Trilogy. This is a pure setting book, focusing entirely on the people, places, politics, and perils of Freeport and containing no game statistics of any kind. The Pirate's Guide to Freeport can thus be used with any fantasy RPG, and Green Ronin will be providing companion products for popular systems like True20 and d20. The City of Adventure is back and more dangerous than ever!

Map included in this package is a joke. Low res scan with page break clearly shown. I bought this for map only :(

I'm considering buying the PDF to complement my physical copy of the book. Can anybody tell me whether: a) it includes high resolution versions of the maps printed in the inside covers (Freeport, Continent, Serpent's Teeth); and b) what format are they (I'm thinking of printing them out as handouts - easier if they're image files). Thanks.

Out of curiosity, can anyone tell me if this is fairly easy to convert to D&D 5e? If not can anyone point me to a good 5e-compatible pirate setting, please?

This sourcebook is system neutral. You need a companion for the system you use. I don't think there is a D&D5 one. But I would go with using the Pathfinder companion as a basis if I had to.

Other than the serpentfolk, I don't think there's anything in this book that requires conversion, unless you want pre-made stats for all the NPCs. Everything else is extremely close to core book 5E as-is. And you can find serpentfolk in a number of 5E Mythos monster books and PDFs.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
