Dungeons & Delvers: Appendix D

Watermarked PDF

Appendix D is a huge supplement for Dungeons & Delvers: Black Book that adds five new races, eight new classes, more talents for existing classes, and more crafting examples (both materials and what you can make with them), monsters, and magic items. It bundles up most of the content from the first six Appendix D "zine" PDFs (included for free with Black Book), along with some new stuff (like the sorcerer and paladin classes) and a bunch of original art (over 40 original illustrations).

There's also some tweaks to most of the original classes and some of their talents, and how weapons and armor works, rules for encumbrance, universal two-weapon fighting talents, optional rules for rolling up 0-level characters, backgrounds, random WP and VP, multiclassing, and abstract weapons and armor, ways to change healing and initiative, a pretty intricate series of tables for gems and art objects, and some suggestions on how to handle stuff like stacking resistances, charms, and healing unconscious characters via magic or alchemical potions.

This product contains two files: one in color, the other B&W (in case you prefer B&W or want to print it out at home).

Real happy with this book. However, would love more from the 'Zines' in Appendix E... ;)
Please do more racial classes! The Cambion is awesome and I would love to see your take on an Elf class.
I really like the 'Talent Ranks' concept and the 20th level stuff. I would love a book that expands all the classes to that point.

We're ALMOST done with Issue 7, which has four new races (a robot and some aliens), two classes (only levels 1-5 for now), high tech weapons, power armor, some spacecraft, and some monsters.

We're also doing another thing that's way more OSR in tone with race as class: so far we got dwarf, elf, and kobold up to 20th-level.

Someone wanted more monstrous races, so right now Issue 8 I'm thinking is going to be like 3rd Edition's Savage Species: might as well do both races AND racial classes for that sort of thing.

No albino pigmy Eskimos?

PS: What means this Appendix E? Typo or a not-listed zine?

I was implying they would write another book and call it Appendix E

Chet: Albino pigmy eskimos? Is that a thing?! :-O

Matthew: I'm sorry! We're going as fast as we can!

(Blame the art that part always takes the longest. :-P)

The plan is to bundle up every six Appendix D issues into a print volume. We think that's a good size and is better than charging people for small 20ish page zines (especially getting them in print: it's probably not worth it at all). I think the D was supposed to be for Delver, so the next one will be Appendix D, Volume 2 (or something like that)

Hrmm, maybe we should just call them Delver? I dunno we'll do a vote in the G+ community and see what the majority wants.

You'll have to ask Billy Barty about the albino pygmy Eskimos.

Except for some new art, this is what we bought with earlier issues of Appendix D?

Technically you would have purchased the Black Book, and then the Appendix D PDFs were added to it later as freebies. Their addition didn't effect the initial price: I just wanted to give people bits of extra content and see what they thought before we got around to charging money for them, and we haven't raised the price since then (and aren't planning to no matter how many we add to it: sci-fi/psionics stuff is probably going to be the them of the next issue).

That said this does include much of the content from those smaller PDFs, but there's also some new stuff (like the barbarian, paladin, and sorcerer classes, some more monsters, crafting materials/examples, rules for abstract weapons and armor, etc), and we've changed/removed other things (like talent ranks and various existing talents).

I guess you could look at the Appendix D "zines", and if you like them but want them in a single, very nice looking PDF that's way better organized, with a bunch of extras, I think it's...See more

That's a really good explanation of the new improved Appendix D. Just needed to know if'n 'twas the same thing. With my Grandpa-type memory, I've frequently bought the same thing more than once. Talked me into this book - I am always up for a new book.

Hoorays! No worries, I'm pretty forgetful myself. Also I'm sorry if I came across as terse or annoyed: I wasn't, but realize that without body language/tone it could read like that.

I sure hope so, man. The print copy of Dungeons and Delvers is an amazing book!

Will this be available for print?

Of course! The original reason we did this was because people kept asking for the Appendix D zines in print form. Just need to wait for the proofs to come in. Should point out that everyone who gets the PDF before then will get print-at-cost links for all of the print options (the bare minimum DriveThru charges for print books so you don't pay anything extra).

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
