The Chapel on the Cliffs (5e)

Selected Option:

"It’s easily one of the best, if not the best 5e adventure I’ve seen." tenfootpole.org

"The Chapel on the Cliffs surpasses any other adventure I've purchased on DriveThruRPG or DMSguild."

"This is easily one of the better adventures that are available on this site."

The Chapel on the Cliffs is a 5th edition horror adventure optimized for a group of 4-5 characters of 3rd level. The module mostly focuses on combat and exploration, but it also offers some interesting roleplaying opportunities to PCs who don't kill everything on sight.

It’s been fifty years since the curse struck Kennmouth. Since then, few have dared brave the dangers of the abandoned village, but even fewer came back in one piece. Will you be the heroes who finally rid Kennmouth of its denizens?

In this adventure, you will get:

  • 35 pages of illustrated content (color)
  • Up to 10 hours of challenging gameplay
  • New monsters and magic items, including the famed Hand of Saint Sidvela, and the Guardian Beast
  • New rules to deal with chases and sieges involving dozens of shambling skeletons
  • A printer friendly DM Companion booklet with monsters statistics and detailed notes on how to scale the adventure for characters of levels 2 to 6.

I purchased this back in 2017 and sat on my shelf until this past October 2021 for a change of pace Halloween adventure. My players loved it! As a DM I appreciated the work that went into it and is user friendly even with a few of the typos present. It can be easily placed in the World of Greyhawk or whatever your setting may be.I'll be checking out more of their products.

There's something off with the DMsGuild search engine. If I type the title of Chapel on the Cliffs into it, the module doesn't show up, at all. I either have to pull up Goblin Stone or go to my wish list. Just thought I'd let y'all know. Also, the reason I was searching, was because I was trying to find a Fantasy Grounds conversion, does one exist? If not, any chance of you getting one made? Even before COVID19 all my gaming was through VTT's and it'd be cool if there was a module of this available.

I have looked at the players companion and it seams there are some mix-ups in transcription in both the player level 5 and level 6 notes. 5s intead of 6s etc.

No problems. My group just played this adventure and they really enjoyed it. I did move Ri**** from the swamp to the farmstead just north of the town.

My Cleric of Lathlander (light) had an emotional crises about a sentient and kind undead being (he intended to smote it on sight)!

I think I might self convert this module to Fantasy Grounds so I can play that way next time (no I won't be distributing it!). I really liked my first read over of Scarab of Death. I hope you find the creative energy for a few more adventures.

Hi, In the companions guide you have less Claws of the Deep for a 5th level party than you do a 4th level party. I suspect that there might be a typo here.

Was really impressed with Banquet of the Damned, so decided to check this adventure out! Really enjoying it, love the quality and presentation. I did have one question though - on page 26 when discussing the Ulruf option, the text says the initial blow results in 3d6 force damage, and another hit will result in an even bigger explosion, an "appalling magical blast". But the second hit still only deals another 3d6 force damage - is this right? The flavor makes it sound like the second hit should cause more damage.

Looking forward to your future work!

Good catch. In the original draft, it dealt another 5d6 force damage but playtesters mentioned that was too much damage for 3rd level characters :). I forgot to update the text. I'll replace it with "another devastating explosion".

Thank you!

Downloaded and loving what I'm reading. Have you ever considered making Roll20 modules for your adventures? I made a homebrew conversion of the Banquet of the Damned, but between the outline and the map / token pack you're already halfway there!

Hi Benjamin,

Thank you for the support!

A Roll20 version of my adventures would be nice, but I don't really have the technical skills to do them myself :). Some people offered to adapt Banquet and Chapel to Fantasy Ground, but that's about it. If i can find someone to help me with Roll20, it sure could be nice to have a mod for it!

Roll20 is free, right?

It is! I've looked into doing modules for them in the past. They advertise it for you / offer a once-over and take 30% of the sales. I feel like one-off add-ons are really rare to see on there so I have to imagine there's a market for them.

I'm not sure my exclusive agreement with OneBookShelf allows me to sell the mod on another platform. I'd have to check with my publisher service!

The information bar is missing from the right side of the page. Did you insert HTML in the product description, perhaps? Maybe one of the tags didn't get closed?

That's odd :(. I just checked manually and in Visual Studio, and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with my HTML. Are you still having trouble? I see your comment is dated July 12th, maybe I accidently fixed it in the meantime.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
