Z-Land Beta Document

Watermarked PDF

This is Z-Land where humanity is no longer the top of the food chain, where every day could be your last. Hunger, Thirst, Sleep and Exposure all wear down on you in a battle of attrition with the unstoppable Dead. Find the answer to the question "just how long would I survive" as you and your friends attempt to do just that. What makes Z-Land unique is we take the survival aspect of survival-horror very seriously. You will see your character weaken as sleep deprivation, hunger & thirst slowly whittle them down. But that is where the choice comes in, will you just take it? Or will you do anything & everything necessary to survive? How much of yourself can you retain in your battle to survive?

Z-Land is our new project that was successfully Kickstarted and is on the road to completion! As part of the Kickstarter, backers received access to the beta rules of Z-Land. Due to popular demand, we are now opening up the Z-Land beta to you as well!

Z-Land is based on the Sigil System base rules, our robust universal system, and we will be adding on more mechanics and rules unique to the post-apocalyptic world of Z-Land. While zombies are an ever-present threat, Z-Land is about survival in every way, shape and form. In Z-Land, the greatest enemy won't be the living or the undead, but rather starvation, thirst and the environment itself.

We've also included a Quick Start Guide that condenses the most important rules of Z-Land down to less than 5 pages. So if you (or someone in your group) has never played Z-Land before, or any tabletop RPG for that matter, then this is the perfect way to get up to speed on how to play the game, and leave the finer details to your GM and the main corebook.

Thus far in the beta:

• Basic rules: Skill Checks, Difficulty Modifiers and Sigil usage.
• Combat rules: Combat Actions, Combat Resolution, Wounds Descriptors, Wound Recovery.
Mental Wounds, Insanity, Mental Wound Recovery.
• Skill List and Descriptors
• Equipment:
Money, Haggling, Gear, Armour, Ranged and Melee Weaponry Modifiers
• Character Advancement
• GM Section and Guidelines
• Character Generator:
From Childhood through to Adulthood for Day-D characters and Apocalypse Era characters.
• Premade characters: For Day 0
• Survival: Thirst, Hunger, Stamina/Sleep and Exposure
• Infection rules and sample zombie character stats.
• Character Sheet and Cheat Sheets

The Beta document for Z-Land will be updated regularly, so you will always be kept up to date on the newest mechanics we add to the beta. Keep in mind, however, that the Z-Land beta document will only ever include the rules and mechanics for the game. It won't include any lore or general art and will never transform into the final book. You'll get all the rules without all the lore.

Does it say what specializations do in the book? I can't seem to find it. I find the rules for getting them, but not what they actually do.

Specialisations work just like Skills, except that they level up twice as fast and they are more specialised versions of skills. What the Specialisations are, that's up to the player to create their own, although there are examples given on the Skill List.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
