$layers: The Dead of Night for Savage Worlds

$layers: The Dead of Night delves into a world where bloodsucking undead are humanity's deadliest, most-secret enemy. Mankind fights back with organized, heroic Hunters as the tip of the spear (or, more accurately, stake.) But there are also the $layers, men and women who kill the undead for money. They don't care how bad things are so long as your check clears.

Within this PDF you will find:

    • The secret history of vampires
    • Game stats and abilities for Basic Vampires (a.k.a. "squids"), Master Vampires, and … more?
    • Vampire and Hunter/$layer tactics explained
    • An example of a detailed $layers franchise using the rules presented in Super-Powered Organizations, a Savage Worlds sourcebook also by Misfit Studios
    • A wealth of new Hindrances and Edges
    • 4 Archetypes to help you jump right into the game: Investigator, Squadie, Religious Advisor, and Team Leader
    • Lots of New Gear, including Armor, Weapons and Accessories, Drones, and Vehicles
    • A number of Story Seeds to help get your game up and running right away
    • Plus a surprise or two.

Both a color and black and white, print friendly version are provided.

I'm interested in this but wonder how much of it was taken form Vampire$? I read the novel years ago and find this very much in the same vein.

If your unfamiliar this is the Wikipedia short for it "Vampire$ is a 1990 horror novel by John Steakley. A dark fantasy with a contemporary setting, the novel concerns a company called Vampire$, Inc. which treats vampire-hunting as a commercial enterprise, funded by large payments from the vampires' potential victims and secretly supported from the highest levels of the Roman Catholic Church."

I would say this mini setting doesn't need much in the part of written adventures once you have read the book.

Vampire$ was indeed a major inspiration of Gerry's when writing the book

An interesting mini-setting, although the lack of any sort of built-in adventures may be seen by some as a count against it. At the very least, it sounds like some fun variation on the monster, although I must confess one misgiving. I cannot read the term "$layer" as anything other than "money-layer", which sounds like a brothel joke, no matter the original intent of writing the name this way.

Fun stuff, I may buy it in the future. On an unrelated note, is there still some plan to release a compendium of the monster briefs and creature features, or a Savage Worlds conversion for the Spirosblakk setting? those were the two things I remember seeing mention of, and I am simply curious about their status and/or existence. I would appreciate a reply if possible, but it is fine if these are questions you cannot answer at this time.

Whichever way it goes, keep up the good work.

There are no fully fleshed out adventures within, but there are a number of "story seeds" that serve as adventure outlines the Gamemaster can jump into. Monster Briefs, etc. are still building towards a compendium alongside new material, but we're not there yet. SpirosBlaak for SW is still something we want to get done, but settings are also ground that has been covered by many other publishers already, so we've new and unique ideas for Savage Worlds that we think will bring more value to the market that we want to get out first.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
