You are a chosen of The Blood, caught in the macabre dance of their nightly existence. The mortal world and its restraints are behind you, but freedom comes at a cost.

Now you prey upon those you may have once loved or acknowledged as equals. What effect does this change have on you and your actions?

Yet vampires aren’t alone. The world teems with supernatural beings hiding from mankind. Many are enemies of The Blood, fighting over scarce resources.

But their greatest foes are also their prey who would rise up and destroy them if they learn the truth.

Welcome to The Blood Hack a love letter to dark games of the 90's that allow you to play the monster! In The Blood Hack you will find the following:

  • Four different Blood Houses to choose from
  • A plethora of Blood Gifts to differentiate your vampire
  • Rules for Blood Rituals, the dark magic practiced by some vampires
  • Usage die mechanics to cover both the character's use of blood and their morality
  • Rules to help play in the modern night, including guns, vehicles and chase mechanics

First off I just want to say I think the game is great, I really like the vibe. The Tzimisce are my favorite V:tM clan, but I always felt that having Dracula just be a Tzimisce was kind of underwhelming for the most iconic vampire in literature, so I really like what you've done by making him be the founder of the Dracul. Now I'm a bit confused on firearms, I might be missing something but my understanding is that your class determines your damage die, so then what would be the point of purchasing a heavy pistol if it does the same amount of damage as a light pistol, and costs more?

I've read several Black Hack games and here is my guess at this answer. Any weapon with the "heavy" tag follows the "two hand weapon" rule. You add +2 to your attack roll and damage roll making it harder to hit but does more damage. If that's not the case here it is something you can use as a difference maker until the creator replies.

First, this is a great book. I am currently developing a setting based on the 80s movie The Lost Boys and this will be the core of it. I have a question about feeding. Maybe I missed it but how does this work? I'm not talking about the usage die but if the players find a human they want to feed on what happens next?

Hello! Apologies for the long delay. I don't seem to get notifications anymore.

I hope you found the answer to your question already, but if you didn't, it is explained on page 26. The gist is that humans have 2 dice worth of blood. They can survive losing one, but losing both will kill them.

How compatible with Cthulhu Hack is it?

Sadly, I do not have that Hack. I would imagine it would be compatible, though vampires will be much tougher than normal human characters.

I’m a bit confused by how sleeping works. So vamps sleep every day and need to drink blood at least every night? That’s how it seems from this sentence “If a vampire goes to sleep without feeding at least a swallow of blood that night, rising will cost them a Blood Usage Die roll.” But the very next sentence states vampires blood usage die rolls are based on their morality. And morality also states that a WIS check is used to wake up “if need be.” Does that mean if their life is in danger?

Apologies for the long delay!

Yes, vamps sleep during the day. Their morality determines how often they need to feed. So a starting character with d6 morality, only needs to feed once every 3 nights and sleeps only for 6 hours. The WIS check to wake up is when they are in danger.

I just got the print copy in the mail and I can’t put it down! I’m hoping you can help me because I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around the blood usage die- specifically on page 26: “on a roll of 1-2 blood usage die, the vampire gains more blood.“ Does that mean we roll to see if we are successful In acquiring blood anytime we drink, or is that specific to smaller animals in droves? Thanks for an awesome game!

So sorry I never got back to you! That line of text you mention is referencing drinking from small animals (like rats and cats and dogs). Their blood is so weak that it is unlikely to sustain the vampire, to the point that their blood die only improves after they drain such a creature and roll a 1-2 on their blood usage die (i.e. the larger their die, the harder it is to feed off small animals). Hope this makes more sense.

Question for the publisher: do you have any plans to do any other modern monstery hacks? (Werewolves, spellcasters, etc?)
Absolutely love this hack!

Thanks!

I have mulled over how to handle Werewolves in a way that would be satisfying. I've not yet nailed it down. I've also said that if it this became a Copper Seller, I would release a supplement for it, so...(looking up at the top of the listing) I guess I have to do that now... ;)

I ended up writing a 16-ish page patch to play Witches for my group. I started typing some notes for Werewolves but I'm not having much luck either!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
