My friend and I went through this book as he is a backer. I was some what disappointed. You won't find any major villains or heroes in the book. Just a bunch of premade villains and heroes that you can use, in your stories. Which is fine but I found that the villains section far outweighed the heroes. So much so that I think a normally GM can almost ignore them completely. The villain's were so well done and thought out, the heroes just didn't have the same flair at all. Maybe we will get stats information or something in the Nation's books (crosses fingers) but if you are looking for villain stats don't look here, you won't find them.

for me it was delightful to read through and grab some of good ideas from the characters presented.
They event had heroes and villain sheet for you to make one yourself. Well to each his own I guess

I think it was written well. However, what this book was missing was ties to the world. I found that for the most part villains and heroes didn't have much setup that tied them to certain places. Almost like adventure seeds. Some might say that backgrounds already supplies this but I don't feel like if gives you enough information as a gamemaster to really just throw a villain or hero in. It would be nice if you knew what area the villain was in rather than, just throw them in wherever you feel like GM. Some meta is good and I feel like 7th Sea is being dumbed down for the sake of people who don't care about a good story which is what drove 7th Sea first edition for me. Not to mention that non of these heroes or villains have ties to any famous heroes or villains from the storyline.

Where's the pirate that sailed with Captain Reece? Where's the musketeer who served the king but turned on him? Where's the Sea Dog who has been cursed by the Fae? None of these colorful character's are included in the...See more

You know, the Russian community of fans 7thSea think about as well. And do us a new world 7thSea not like. Maybe something so save this project, but now we have what we have. And we do not really like. In generalI believe that the John Wick got sick a syndrome of George Lucas. When he stopped beating on his hands - he began to sculpt not a very good stuff.

I am not sure if I would go that far. The new 7th Sea has some growing pains sure. Are things in need of re-balancing *cough* swordsman schools *cough*. I just personally feel like the first version of 7th Sea had so much flair and character and this feels like it's more D&D like (which is not a good thing) and by that I mean they tried to dumb it down so that everyone could just grab the book and play it without knowing political plots or major villains. But the problem is, that is what made the original so great!

Stories of these villains and heroes that were larger than life have been replaced by a book of people who are basically unknowns. Well that's great for those people who want D&D style splat books but I would prefer there be a hint of some meta that gives me the storyteller a prompt of just how this villain effects the world.

I mean just judging from the villains currently inside (spoiler warning) they don't have any that are pure influence or pure strength? Is that...See more

To be fair you are judging the first and second book of a line against a complete 10-12 book line. They will get there. They have to develop a good foundation first. My players want to be their own great heroes not interact with ones of old so old villains/heroes have no sway over me. Instead I can take the things here and come up with my own compelling political story that fits with my players.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
