Post-Apocalyptic Genre

Agregar a la ista de deseados >

Document updated to version 1.2 with improved formatting and source notes for foci that are not in the CSR corebook.

This product is inspired by the four genres presented in the Cypher System Rulebook by Monte Cook Games and by the absence in that book of the popular post-apocalyptic genre. Presented here are not just ideas for how the post-apocalyptic world can look like (you probably have good ideas here yourself), but also some systems and rules to help you get started more quickly. The common theme is survival, but how that plays out can be very different. Are your players facing a zombie apocalypse or has the world been left irradiated (or flooded) because of world-spanning nuclear war? These games will be quite different from each other, but you’ll hopefully find some assistance in building your particular world regardless of which type of game you make.

What you’ll find here is information on creating and running post-apocalyptic games, tips and recommendations for player characters, details on allowing mutated and intelligent animals as PCs (and NPCs for that matter), an alternative way of tracking radiation damage (or any corruption) tied to a system of mutations and defects (i.e. harmful mutations), survival rules, a special section on zombie games, an entire revised crafting system and more. This is a toolbox that helps you build your world, by providing ideas, examples and lots of rules.

Please note that this product includes the entirety of my previous product, Wasteland Crafting, for convenience purposes (and accounts for roughly seven pages in total here, though with a slightly longer equipment list and other minor revisions). Many thanks to all of you who supported my work by purchasing Wasteland Crafting and inspired me to move on and write this Post-Apocalyptic Genre. While I can't seem to give you a discount on this product (as it is created through the simplified Community Content Program), you have my sincerest gratitude and I hope you will feel this Post-Apocalyptic Genre is worth its price regardless, which I hope I've set fairly.

Feel free to leave a comment below with what's good, bad and simply missing.

Requires the Cypher System Rulebook from Monte Cook Games.

Updated the file with source notes for foci (thanks Richard M!) and more spacious formatting for easier readability. Please let me know of any issues with the version (1.2).

Do you have a site or anything else giving references about the foci you list page 9 ? For example I don't have any clue where I could find "Lives on the Road". Maybe an update with these references should be appreciate. :)

This one http://connorscampaigns.wikidot.com/cypher-foci seems exhaustive but some foci are missing.

I know Monte Cook Games have a webpage somewhere where they've collected all the foci, descriptors and what-not, but I just can't seem to find it at the moment. As for the one you listed specifically, my notes say it's available in the Numenera World Guidebook and Character Options 2, also for Numenera. I'll look into denoting the source for the foci - good idea!

The site I was looking for was http://cypherguide.com/ which is the official site from MCG. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem complete either. Email me at baylox at outlook dot com and I'll send you the reference sheet I've made, which probably isn't complete either since I don't own all cypher system-related books. Put together with the others it might cover everything. :)

Thank you for your answer Peter, I hadn't thought about the Character Options 2. Find it. Anyway you did a great job.
The one I noticed, Lives on the road (Numenera Character options 2, p.66 ), is the only one missing on the http://connorscampaigns.wikidot.com/cypher-foci list, so it's ok (even if I think you should add the references right in the document :) ).

Great idea! A worthy addition to the Cypher System, but I'll have to read it.

I've collected a few errata, which I can e-mail you once I've finished reading.
One thing I noticed is on page 21. There is a Mutations table with an alphabetic list of 40 mutations but you roll 2d20 on it. This will tend to favour mutations centered on #21 and the ones at both ends of the table will come out more rarely! If you intended all mutations to be equally likely, you should make it a percentile roll: 01-02, 03-04, etc. up to 79-80, with an instruction to re-roll anything 81+.

Please do! Send it to baylox at outlook dot com.

As for the mutations table, that's something I didn't consider when creating it, though I had originally planned to let some mutations be more common than others. The best option is probably to change it to a percentile roll, as you suggest, and then adjust the numbers for each mutation. "Natural" mutations, like claws and fangs, should be more common than extraordinary ones like Incineration and Shapechange. I'll look into it when I've gotten your errata suggestions.

Thanks!

Imagen escaneada
