Tibet (PDF + donate a book)

About this bundle:

Now you can own the PDF of Tibet and have a copy of a physical book donated to a non-profit.  For each PDF purchased, we'll donate a copy of one of our books to a non-profit (e.g. game club, game convention, library).  You can even suggest a non-profit you'd like us to donate to.  We've donated more than 200 books to various non-profits so far.

About the game:

In 1950, Chinese communist soldiers marched in to Tibet. They forced the Tibetans to agree to a slow conversion to Communism. Yet as the number of troops in Tibet grew, so did the intolerance of the Chinese.

It is 1959 and Tibet is a country on the verge of chaos. Tales of Chinese atrocities are spreading. The Chinese seem ready to disband the Tibetan government at any moment. The people fear for the fate of their religious leaders. An anti-Chinese rebellion is slowly engulfing the whole country in warfare.

Yet things in Tibet are not always what they seem. Tibet is a place where ancient mystical teachings have been hidden. The opportunities for enlightenment are powerful, but so are the dangers. Sorcerers, malevolent spirits and cursed ritual objects are just a few of the magical hazards. For all its peace and beauty, Tibet is a harsh and dangerous place where one must be strong or smart to survive.

There is a new book by Barbara Demick called EAT THE BUDDHA (June 2020) about life over the decades in the small town of Ngaba in Outer Tibet. Focuses on individual lives and may be good source material.

I wanted to find out about buying a hardcover copy of this RPG, but your webpage for Vajra is not working, menu link to Tibet RPG and even the comments facility does not work. Chinese hackers?

Hi Pierre! I read another book by that same author (about North Korea) and I'll definitely check this one out.

The problems on the Vajra site were the fault of our former web host, not Chinese hackers. We're now back up on a new host. If you check out the Vajra Enteprises site you can see a lot of Tibet content. We don't sell a hardcover version of the book, but you can buy a softcover printe copy there.

Awesome concepts, dude! An instant buy for me. I am not American, but please go ahead and donate a book to an American game club or con if they can handle mature themes. Have you RATED your own game as mature? Such games should not come up in a search by minors on DriveThru.
Someone reviewed the free Monastic edition unfavourably and, surprise, surprise, he is Chinese. Probably from the server farm in China full of staff who comb the world's chats trying to squash any Internet comment favourable to Tibet as an a autonomous state. See if he has any other DriveThru activity. Probably not! Maybe you should donate a copy to a Chinese embassy or consulate courtesy of his name, HAHAHAHA!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
