In The Company of Fey (5E)

ADD TO WISHLIST >

You know you want to play a Satyr, a Sprite, or a Quickling!

Come and delight in the mess you make of mortal lives!

The First Folk, servants of Auberyon the Solstice King, they are race of mercurial essence and yet they are timeless, a race that cares very little for the consequences of their actions yet they keep the bargains that they make. They are the uncaring eldritch powers of nature, yet they are quick to take offense, all the while living with abandonment. They value entertainment, humor, and take on the aspects of various forms throughout their immortal existence.

Create the fey you want to play in the 5th Edition of the World's Most Popular Fantasy Roleplaying Game. This product includes the new fey race the First Folk, racial traits, the paragon racial class (that lets you advance as a fey), and fey feats. All so you can play fey alongside any other player character in any high fantasy campaign setting.

It's a shame that this wasn't given the 5e conversion treatment it deserved. As a Pathfinder supplement, this was exceptional, but it just doesn't hold up with the simplicity of 5th edition D&D.

This has a lot of mechanics language that isn't consistent with 5e. Mentions of primary and secondary natural weapons, two claw attacks? Ranged touch attacks? What do I do with two claw attacks? Do I treat it like dual wield?

This book isn’t 5E compatible at all. Nearly all of the mechanics are Pathfinder with no 5E equivalent. Damage types that don’t exist, like Electrical. Druid abilities that exist in Parhfinder, but don’t in 5E (wild empathy). Natural healing doesn’t exist, so the double healing doesn’t do anything. The stat adjustments are Pathfinder and nothing like 5E since there are no stat penalties like this in 5E. This book is a mess. It needs significant rewriting to actually be 5E. I started to do it myself, but it’s basically a total rewrite. If you want to use it for 5E, you’ve got a lot of work ahead of you.

Hi, I'm in the process of doing just that, as I haven't found any fey classes that can really give me what I'm looking for. It seems a lengthy rewrite is my best option. You mentioned you had a few pages of notes prepared trying to make the class function within 5e. Would you be able to send any of that my way? It'd be an enormous help and give me somewhere to start working from.

Hello,

After speaking with some of our industry partners and our writers and editors on the project. This PDF has all the correct mechanics in for 5e. The decision was made to leave some of the flavor text like favored class bonuses, that you COULD employ in 5e, but aren't an intrinsic part of the game. Effectually, we left this as a decision for the GM and the Players to make if they wanted to include it or not. During play testing the feedback of the inclusion of this was highly favored.

Thank you again for your inquiry. Should you have additional questions feel free to email us at Miranda@RitePublishing.com.

Sincerely,

Miranda Russell

The quick preview link shows some text that is clearly "Pathfinder-style" favored class stuff. Is this preview correct?

Having purchased the product, the present document is a Pathfinder product. I'm hoping that the publisher uploaded the wrong file.

Given the recent tragedy in the Rite Publishing family, I'm allowing time for them to respond and hopefully load the correct file.

Please be patient in light of Steve's passing on July 5th. Some parts of my copy appear to be 5E and some the original PFRPG. Steve had also received a minor revision to the original PFRPG rules from me in recent months that was included in the Hero Lab rules and to be updated on pdf downloads; I'm thinking there was an oops in the process during layout, possibly complicated by that. I wasn't directly involved with the day-to-day of the 5E conversion, but will make sure this gets sorted out and an appropriately updated 5E file available as soon as possible.

No worries, Wendall. I am aware of Steve's tragic passing (actually, it's part of the reason why I bought the product). I put up the comment partly as a question, and partly as a warning to those who might not be as understanding.

Is this mislabeled as a 5e product? The races and classes in this book read like a 3.x/Pathfinder product.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
