Darkness Is Always With Us

We have shared the world with monsters for millennia. In the time of Alexander the God-King, mages fought their secret wars. In Elizabeth’s London, vampires built their own empire brick by bloody brick. Before the founding of America, hunters fought enemies within and without. And in the Cold War, as the clock ticked towards Armageddon, we could have been damned by fallen angels.

Secrets Revealed

Chronicles of Darkness: Dark Eras reveals the world throughout its long and storied past. Through sixteen eras, you’ll learn the secret history of the world, from the flame-lit tales of the Neolithic to the drug-fueled rebellion of the 1970s. Delve into the past, and learn that the Chronicles of Darkness began long before the modern nights.

Dark Eras includes historical settings covering all the Chronicles of Darkness game lines up through Demon:

  • The Sundered World (Werewolf: The Forsaken & Mage: The Awakening, 5500-5000 BCE)
  • To the Strongest (Mage: The Awakening, 330-320 BCE)
  • Three Kingdoms of Darkness  (Changeling: The Lost & Geist: The Sin-Eaters, 220-280)
  • The Wolf and the Raven (Werewolf: The Forsaken & Geist: The Sin-Eaters, 700-1100)
  • After the Fall (Demon: The Descent, 1453-1458)

  • Requiem for Regina (Vampire: The Requiem & Changeling: The Lost, 1593)
  • Lily, Sabre, and Thorn (Changeling: The Lost, 1600s-early 1700s)
  • Fallen Blossoms (Hunter: The Vigil, 1640-1660)
  • Doubting Souls (Hunter: The Vigil, 1690-1695)
  • A Grimm Dark Era (Changeling: The Lost, 1812-1820)
  • The Ruins of Empire (Mummy: The Curse, 1893-1924)
  • A Handful of Dust (Promethean: The Created, 1933-1940)
  • God's Own Country (Geist: The Sin-Eaters, 1950s)
  • Into the Cold (Demon: The Descent, 1961)
  • The Bowery Dogs (Werewolf: The Forsaken, 1969-1979)
These chapters are all also available as individual products.

Note on the Print Editions: Standard Color uses a different printing process than Premium Color. This usually means the colors are less vivid, but it also means the price drops a bit per page in the production process.

Hey folks, does anyone know if the full Dark Eras books have layer settings or a printer friendly version?
I've seen the previews, and it seems like there are a LOT of full-page darkly colored illustrations. As I intend to buy the pdf and print out only certain small sections for reference(as I have with other rpg books) I'd prefer to be able to turn those off to print mostly the text. Ink is even more expensive these days than buying hardbacks, but I do not have the living space for all the full books.
Thank you for any advice you can provide.

I'm having a bit of a problem, I just bought this and the pdf won't load on my viewer. It's Adobe Reader and for whatever reason it says there's an error starting the file and it can't be repaired. are there any solutions to this?

A bit late, but try to redownload it. Sometimes I also get pdf's from drivethrurpg that somehow get corrupted when downloading. It might take a few tries...

Does the binding on this book hold up?

I know that Mage: The Ascension 20 Year edition was completely borked, so I am curious to see if they fixed it.

With POD, the quality of the binding isn't necessarily consistent between copies of the same title. It's not as if the binding quality is embedded in the file that gets printed. Both my PoD and my proper deluxe edition of M20 are fine for example, but my Ironclaw Omnibus is well borked. (Although I suspect that thicker volumes are tougher on the glue and M20 is a very thick volume indeed ...)

I think that even the pdf is a little bit expensive, but, it's a 600 pages book after all. Will wait to see more reviews and make up my mind though.

Does this still have the issue of the Changeling rules being confused on whether to use 1e changeling rules or 2e changeling rules?

It should be all defaulted to first edition due to the time of creation, however, i see no reason the scenarios cannot be used.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
