Death of Legends: First Kingdoms

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Take the fight against the Enemy to the frozen, magic-infused, First Kingdoms. First Kingdoms is an expansion for the Death of Legends dark-fantasy roleplaying game.

Nobody knows what fate befell the Ancients.  One day they were simply gone; only their magic remained. The City of Winterfall

For centuries there was peace amongst the elder races.  But soon diplomacy and trade gave way to greed and conflict as Frost Elves warred with Stone Dwarves. Ice Dragons and Tree Folk attacked any who dared enter their territory.

The long summer of the Ancients had given way to perpetual winter when the young races arrived in the First Kingdoms.

From the freezing sea the Water-Sworn came in longships, raiding and plundering with fierce hunger.  From the East a new power rose as a hundred different tribes and peoples banded together for mutual protection and prosperity, forming a mighty Royal Coalition.

These new arrivals were not welcomed by the elder races who still guarded their secrets jealously. War raged for years, a legacy of blood and suffering built on ever-changing alliances and treaties, as each faction sought dominance.

Finally, exhausted by war, an uneasy peace descended on the First Kingdoms.

But now a dark power has risen.  It commands monstrous armies and seeks dominion over the First Kingdoms.

War is coming and nobody knows who can be trusted.

This expansion presents a new, highly magical, land where a shared history of war and conflict has fostered an atmosphere of suspicion and distrust between elder and younger races alike. Legendary heroes representing each race must decide who among them can be trusted in the battle for the survival against a powerful and malevolent Enemy who seeks dominion over the First Kingdoms.

Great game, I am looking forward to play it, but as with your first publication (Death of Legends) my bw-laser-printer has a hard time to print the dark shaded table rows even in high resulution, for example on the Death of Legends character sheet. The letters are barely readable. BTW the high resulution PDF of the first publication reports an error when trying to open it with adobe reader. Thanks.

Thanks for the comment - I'll make a printer friendly version of the game materials and publish it here (and for Death of Legends) shortly. In terms of the problem with the high res PDF, it opens fine for me... Can you drop me a line via imaginaryempiregames [at] gmail [dot] com and I'll see if we can sort it out?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
