Capture the Spirit of Arthurian Legend!

Relive the grandeur, romance and adventure of the greatest of all legends — the story of King Arthur. Assume the role of a knight starting his career in the time of Uther Pendragon, undertaking quests and perilous adventures for your lord, for your lady-love, for the Church, or for your own glory. Win great renown with your laudable deeds and feats of arms, perhaps even winning the right to carve your name into the Round Table itself as the story of Arthur and Camelot unfolds around you.

With its innovative rules, including the distinctive traits and passions system designed to help you in determining your character's behavior under any circumstances, King Arthur Pendragon provides a unique roleplaying experience laid out against the richest tapestry in Western literature.

This Edition 5.2 offers hundreds of corrections to Edition 5.1 which itself updated the redesigned and reorganized 5th Edition. This book also contains new material and rules changes for 5th Edition by Greg Stafford, the creator of the original game.

There is an offset printed edition that is shipping from press. We may offer a POD eventually too, but would like to sell copies from the print run.

This new Edition is so much more enjoyable to read. Great improvement on the page design. Arts looks amazing. The only thing missing is a consolidation of the tables at the end or even better a GMscreen instead on the way maybe. Add a 100 glory to your total Nocturnal.

Hi folks,
The 5.2 version has two links but they're both the same file (the NoMe version).
1. What's the NoMe version? :-)
2. Can you please fix the link for the non-NoMe file.

It's a system artifact of some kind that we thought would disappear after X days, but we'll inquire with DTRPG s it's still there. Get the "KAP 5.2" file (recently renamed to make that clear). "NoMe" is just short for Nocturnal Media.

Why is the Knight (on the front cover) dressed in Plate Armour? The Arthurian-era takes place over 800 years before Plate Armour was used.

The game emulates Arthurian literature, not historical Sub-Roman Britain
Customer avatar

OK, but even then the main Arthurian literature was written between the 6th and 12th centuries. Hundreds of years before the invention/use of Plate Armour.

Even the majority of the Romance literature was written in the 12th to 13th century, and predates Plate Armour.

So I guess this begs the question, is the Culture, Setting, Weapons, and Armour of the game based on the 5th Century, or on later Centuries? Does the game have Knights in Plate Armour chasing off Saxon "Knights", or is it truer to the orginal myths and legends, where Arthur's Knights are a band of Brittish Warriors fighting against Saxon Barbarians?

In the grand campaign supplement, it explains in great detail how the anachronistic tech advancement happens throughout the era from the "Dark Ages" to the Early Renaissance to reflect the anachronistic nature of the literature.

This is a great question and an issue that the game specifically addresses in terms of Arthur's reign as microcosm for a period of European history. New equipment, horses, clothing, etc. come available during the course of the game's time period. Here is the text from "When Is This?" on page 10:

"This book, the core rules for the King Arthur Pendragon game, is set to begin your campaign in the year 485 A.D. This period occurs toward the end of King Uther Pendragon’s reign, shortly before he fathers Arthur. The information given here is narrowly set in that period, with armor and weapon choices, clothing styles, castle and horse types, and a general price list inspired by what we know of Dark Age Europe. Subsequent game supplements will advance the chronology so that fifteen game years emulate one hundred years of technological and cultural advancement through European history. King Arthur’s reign lasts for 55 years — from the time he draws the sword from the stone (510 A.D.) until...See more

If you ordered a POD copy then you'll need to address that with DTRPG. If it's a PDF, then "contact publisher" and we can help sort this for you.

Hi Stewart,

I bought the hardcover for KAP 5.1

Do I get 5.2 for free?

I also pledged for Aquellare RPG and I seem to recall 5.2 was included if you got the PDF for that KS but I may be off as it was a while ago.

Anyway, let me know when you have time.

Thanks.

Best,

Shannon Mac

If you bought KAP 5.1 POD then you are also due to receive the 5.2 PDF as a free update. KAP 5.2 is available as a print and PDF add-on in the Aquelarre KS project. It's not included automatically.

Sorry for the trouble, Shannon. KAP 5.2 should already be in your library. If it's not, then you should contact DTRPG customer service. Once they confirm you purchased 5.1 then they will make the correction.

Hi Stewart,
This is great news. My favorite edition was always the Third Edition, as the book was as beautiful as the rules themselves.
Do you have any schedule for the offset press version? Is there an announcement list one can get on?

Offset goes to press early 2017!

For news, make certain you're receiving email from Nocturnal here on DTRPG, and you can also "like" Nocturnal on FB and subscribe for updates at www.nocturnal-media.com (at the bottom of the home page).

Any news on the status of the physical copies/versions? Subscribed to you guys here on DTRPG, and received your Cold Shadows email the other day (which I backed:P). Just wondering, as I have the PDF but would love a physical copy, as they are just so much easier to access and use while playing rather than having to print out a 200~ page PDF :P

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
