This is the tale of a forgotten age before the seas were bent, when the world was flat and floated atop a sea of chaos. This is the tale of a decadent empire raised up on the bones of the fallen Golden Age, whose splendor it faintly echoed but could not match. This is a tale of primal frontiers, of the restless dead, of jeweled cities ruled openly by spirits in defiance of Heaven’s law. This is a tale of glorious heroes blessed by the gods, and of their passions and the wars they waged in the final era of legends.

This is your tale. This is Exalted. What legends will they tell of your deeds?

Exalted 3rd Edition depicts both a revitalized and expanded Creation, and the triumphant return of the Solar Exalted—but whether their rebirth will herald the salvation or destruction of the world, none can say. The system redesign takes the best parts of the previous editions and streamlines the mechanics for maximum playability.

EX3

Exalted 3rd Edition includes:

  • New Fiction - Read a new tale by original Exalted developer and author Geoff Grabowski.
  • New Artwork – See the Realm in a new light with stunning artwork by both new and classic Exalted artists working under the direction of Maria Cabardo.
  • Expanded Locales – Expand your campaigns with a detailed overview of the sprawling and decadent Second Age of Man. In addition to classic locales such as Chiaroscuro and Nexus, find many new locations not detailed in previous editions, from the treacherous intrigues of Port Calin to the proud warriors of the frigid plains and forests of Medo, held in check only by the iron hand of the Realm.
  • Intrigue and Mystery – Discover a revitalized Realm, still standing at the brink of civil war, but more dangerous than ever before; and the Lunar dominions which harry its borders, seeking redress for ancient crimes while pursuing modern ambitions.
  • Expanded Character Creation – Create and play Solar Exalted characters and compelling mortal heroes with more information and fleshed out details.
  • Combat System – Fight with a new cinematic combat engine, primed to deliver dynamic, exciting, and easily resolved battles between heroes, gods, and armies.
  • Charms – Explore a vibrant new Charm set encompassing both classic Solar powers from previous editions and all-new powers to shift the course of Creation.
  • ...and much, much more!

The East

Note on the Print Editions: Standard Color uses a different printing process than Premium Color. This usually means the colors are less vivid, but it also means the price drops a bit per page in the production process.

When can we expect the next release in the series? While 2e conversions are numerous I'm looking forward to the 3e series.

We don't know. Arms of the Chosen has been in some sort of a rewrite thing for several months, Dragonblooded and The Realm have been in second draft for well over a year. There's little evidence that anything is getting done at all. Rich, the Onyx path person, has on more than one occasion written about how changes will be made to get more books out but we've seen no results to date. The developers seem to have high hopes of getting out the line as they described it in 2013 but as of yet they've proven incapable of producing material at a rate even remotely close to their earlier predictions.

Arms of the Chosen is running up to release at this point. The lead devs have been switched out and more communicative writers have been promoted to run the line.

I have a question for anyone who has bought the physical edition of the core book.

How is the book holding up? 600 pages is a lot of pages and I have bought a few other large RPG books and have them fall apart because of poor quality.

I love the game but I don't want to buy a book only to have it fall apart with in a week or two....

I Purchased the Premium Heavyweight version and quite like it. I typically keep good care of my books so they tend to stay is good shape. I've had the book for just over 9 months and haven't had any problems with it falling apart. The Corners of the cover are curling in a bit from transit but nothing more than that.

My Premium Heavyweight came apart tonight, binding's coming completely off from the back cover side. I picked it up last May and it's been barely used - we only had it for 4 or 5 sessions when I first bought it, and then my group's been using it again over the last 3 Fridays. Besides some light reading outside that, it's been sitting (not standing) on my bookshelf that whole time.

I doubt I'll be replacing it, way too expensive for a book that size with standard binding (imho). Have the same concerns about my M20 copy, but thankfully the group's had zero interest in playing that since I bought it :P

A friend of mine bought the basic hardcover and is having the same binding issues and he hardly abuses his books. It's way too big a book for the binding. Should have split it into separate volumes or something.

Mine has held up well, but I am ultra careful with my books. The binding does look fairly sturdy, I have the standard heavyweight.

This product page sells a book to people who already know Exalted. But for someone who is new to the game their is nothing to learn here. I was curious to find out what exactly the game and its system are about but it basically only talks about how it's different from previous editions about which I also don't know anything.

Fair warning to people looking at this game... While it is excellent (seriously, I gave it a five star review for a reason), having gotten it in hand... it's huge. Make room on your shelf, then go back and make more, because however big you're thinking, it's not big enough. It is without contest physically the thickest RPG I own. Thicker than the Mage: the Awakening core rulebook. Thicker than the Pathfinder core book. Thicker than Vampire: the Masquerade 20th Anniversary Edition. It is somewhere between three and four inches thick, and at least a third of that is just the Charms chapter. Consider yourselves warned.
Customer avatar
Ben D June 01, 2016 9:37 pm UTC
I doubt it is as thick as Ptolus. That being said how much fluff vs rules is there?

Aubrey E June 13, 2016 12:34 am UTC

And you will find that a book that thick, with a glued spine, will see the spine fail very quickly. My two (2) mage POD failed just leafing through them. The .pdf is great, but these THICK print on demand books are a let down.

Looking at reference images of the Ptolus core, Ptolus looks perhaps a quarter of an inch thinner. It's a marginal thing.

There's plenty of fluff (some of which is new to this edition; a number of locations from previous editions are not discussed in the core book, in favor of filling in some of the empty space), but the Charms chapter alone tips the weight of the crunch heavily on the winning side. Like I mentioned, the charm crunch takes a third of the book.

Those of you who got print copies, how long did they take to show up? Mine was shipped on April 25 and I still haven't seen any sign of it, what's really weird is things that were shipped on April 26 showed up well over a week ago... I'm getting worried it was lost in the mail, and it wasn't cheap. How long did all of your copies take to arrive?

I had that problem with both (the original and replacement) of my Mage 20th POD. I got a refund after giving up. These binding is simply TOO POOR for such a thick book. The pages are glued in and not sewn in. This is the biggest problem I have seen with print on demand.

Full size preview isn't working, so I can't really "see" what the book looks like. Plus, giving just the first 13 pages, nine of which are a story, is NOT helpful. Show something NEW and INTERESTING, not just a quick (and super lazy) cut of the first little bit of the .pdf.
Customer avatar
gary F April 24, 2016 3:37 pm UTC
Also guys, having the preview be the first 13 pages, and those pages be all fiction and one page of the table of contents does nothing for me. This is really across the board for drivethru, not just related to this one book. If I'm going to be spending more than $9 on a PDF I'd like more of an idea of what I'm getting.
Customer avatar
Tim G April 25, 2016 6:44 pm UTC
Agreed. For this size of book you want to show the full table of contents plus several pages of interior. It's been a while since I did one, but you certainly used to be able to create your own pdf and submit it, or to do the from-to auto-generate, so anything is possible.

A good point, one I have thought about but have not voiced until now. I know piracy is a worry but a dozen or so pages taken from the ToC or anywhere in the meat of a book this size should not really matter. In this age of electronic options one thing we are denied is the chance to flip through a copy of a book. Anything that gives us a better idea of what we are plopping $15, or even $70+ for would be a boon. On that note for those who are gun shy the option to buy the PDF to review the book and the to buy the Hardcover only, if we like what we see would be nice. Having to buy the PDF to get an idea and then only having the option to buy Hardcover/PDF combo sucks (and if such an option exist already, it should be made more plain).
Customer avatar
Kevin B August 25, 2016 10:20 pm UTC
Agreed on so many levels, man. Since they're asking for at least 30$ for this book, the least they could do is give us a decent sized preview.

Heck, they could do what Monte Cook is doing, and offer free previews of this stuff as a separate download which contains a couple different pages from throughout the book to really convince us that this is a product worth the expense.

...Kind of like what they did for their new Storyteller system but with a little more bulk. After all, this is over 600+ pages, I'm not say they tell everything, but some real details would be nice!

The PoD´s still haven´t arrived. At least mine didn´t, and I ordered it the same release day. I can tell you that the premium prints of other Onyx Path books is superb, and the standard paper prints are acceptable (the paper is quite thin, and the colors doesn´t look as good as premium, but still, not bad at all). The binding is good too (at least, I hadn´t any problem with them, and I bought a good amount of OPP books). I just had a problem with a couple books having a white line in the top, but Drivethru guys sent me a new perfectly printed copy in replacement in both cases, so no complains.

I got the Standard Hardcover. Don't get the softcover, there are too many pages for that kind of binding to handle.

Standard print version is ok, although colours are a little duller than they appear on-screen in the PDF. That's the only difference I've noticed.

Good answers but I still wonder, it the premium version just a difference in the interior (paper and print quality) or does it have an upgraded cover as well? $50 seems steep for just a paper and print upgrade.

Its a paper upgrade only, but the difference in colours is significant. I wouldn't bother with standard personally but YMMV for a table copy.

Ouch--well OK. Thanks for the info. Even beefy and well-bound books in full color on high-quality paper like Shadowrun 5e don't charge those sorts of premiums. I get it is POD but you'd think that KS they did would have defrayed the cost some.

Damn me to hell but since this is my favorite RPG of all time I guess I'll be a sucker and shell out nearly double the price. I will say however at that price the binding better be top notch and not come apart or I am gonna be madder than a hemorrhoidal wolverine riding a stone-wheeled, suspensionless motorcycle down ten miles of railroad ties.

The Kickstarter was to fund the deluxe edition, and backers got a discount code to get the POD at a reduced price.

I'm pretty sure that most of the price of the POD is just what Drivethrough charge for their costs and cut.

A few things:

First, the full-size preview isn't loading. For something like this, I want to see how it renders on my iPad before purchasing it. Some PDFs do not do well on tablets.

Second, I've heard there are no bookmarks in this document. Is this true? For a document of this length, I would consider good bookmarks essential.

Third, I've heard that there are no hyperlinks in the index. While not as essential as good bookmarks, they are useful in a document of this length. (For probably the best example of hyperlinking and bookmarking a rulebook, check out the Numenera corebook. Best. Bookmarks Ever.)

1. Anecdotal, but it works great on my Air 2. No slowdowns or other issues just reading it in iBooks.

2. It does have full bookmarks.

3. The index is not hyperlinked, but it is a massive 26 pages, and compared to indices in prior Exalted books, it's a work of beauty in terms of organization and depth.

Does this still have the old style Anime artwork in it? It was one of the things that always drew me to it. It looks like this one is different though, but I can't get the full-size preview to load, so I can't say. Anyone who's bought it, able to tell me?

Yeah. What Luke said. That style isn't GONE, but there is no longer a single, unified style in Exalted anymore. Now there's anime style stuff, stuff like the watercolor-esque thing on the cover, render art, all kinds of different things.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
