Instant Universe

Selected Option:

Exploring strange new worlds and alien civilizations is one of the most exciting aspects of science fiction. In many cases, though, these worlds are only slight variations of our own, with cultures and technology not much further advanced.

=GALACTIC BAROQUE= INSTANT UNIVERSE will vastly expand your horizons. Not merely a rulebook for random solar system creation, this guide generates exotic locales at any point from the big bang to the end of the Stelliferous era that better reflect where super- and ultra-advanced technology will take us.

Does humankind still live in trees or caves? Of course not! We learned to build our own habitations long ago. Likewise, INSTANT UNIVERSE determines technology levels of civilizations, indicating native life populations, star system development (including terraformed planets, megaengineered space colonies, and beyond), and interstellar colonization.

Writers of any genre, gamers, roleplayers, world builders, astronomy enthusiasts, and more will find this heavily researched book useful, fascinating, and fun. It's a great way to introduce children and novices to the wonders of the universe, too!

What dose intracluster mean in the context of cluster galaxy types?

Also, what dose exile mean? It only appears once in the book.

In Table 3.3, Table 3.5 and the "Disk, Belts & Clouds" sections, there are several dice notations which are marked with an *. However, it is, in many cases, not explained what this * means in those particular rolls. What am I missing here or it is a mere typo?

I can't tell from the description what level of detail and astronomical knowledge this is pitched at. The note that it's a great way to introduce children and novices is a bit discouraging to me.

At the moment I am using the Advanced Star System Generation Sequence from GURPS Space 4th edition, which I have computerised with great labour. That was published in 2006, and was a marvel for the time. I'm looking for something significantly more detailed and up-to-date. Is "Instant Universe" what I'm looking for?

Hola compañero, ya pasaron más de 4 años desde este comentario que has hecho... pero dime, ¿Has probado el Rogue Trader Star System Creation Guide? Si la respuesta es un "si", que opiniones tienes?

I strongly recommend anyone thinking about purchasing "Instant Universe" first search for and read the free, Cosmos-2 Alternity Universe-Building Guidebook. It was written by Mark Peoples.

You may also find World Building: A writer's guide to constructing star systems and life-supporting planets by Stephen Gillett a good book resource.

The old masters, Traveller and GURPS Space remain very good, despite the lack of recent updates. Our knowledge about systems and planets (outside our own) has expanded greatly over the past 15 years.

I consider myself a connoisseur of RPG astronomical generation systems. Even at the $4.15 sale price, this product was underwhelming.

Thank you for your decent star system generator suggestions.

“Cosmos-2” in particular caught my attention because the author’s approach is closer to that which I took for “Instant Universe” than any other book I’ve yet read—although there are some significant differences. For one, “Instant Universe” is designed to give several relevant details at once with one throw of a set of polyhedral dice, helping to simplify and speed up the process. Also, my book includes many more details and possibilities than those offered in “Cosmos-2”, such as galaxy, star, and world peculiarities, random determination of atmospheres and volatiles, the probability of life and its level of complexity, and how a civilization affects the system.

Plus, no other system I know of but “Instant Universe” has a method for creating scientifically plausible galaxies and stars across the 100 trillion year span of the Stelliferous Era—not merely our own short sliver of spacetime.

Very interesting. But need a review considering there are many generators out there. $8 for 46 pages seems steep.

I haven't had time to do a review yet.

From the detail put into the work it's not your normal random generator it's very well researched.

The procedure to create a universe and down to a planet is a bit confusing on read through. It's very detailed and has lots of information about what you can expect with different outcomes. I hope to do a random creation and review soon.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
