In commemoration of the end of the June, and the completion of the d30 Challenge over at the Frugal GM Blog, I've put together this free d30 table for quickly generating a NPC's personality.

There are many ways of creating a memorable NPC for your campaign, but I have often found that simpler is better (at least for me) and what works best is just a couple of words that describe the NPCs defining character traits. I usually have a list of unused names and simply jotting down a couple words next to the name, usually the NPC's profession and these traits, is all I need should the party decide to revisit the NPC at a later date. Now I usually have already made a list of names, segregated by race and gender, for each locale in my game.....if you just use a straight list you might want to record a bit more.

There are two main methods for creating the NPC's personality and I've suggested a quick tweak if you need a specific alignment. I hope this helps you dust off that seldom-used d30.

If this interests you you might want to check out the Order of the d30 G+ community, where you can find a lot more support for this one die.

I love random tables and I like NPCs. But sometimes it can be tough to distinguish between Bob #1 and Bob #2 when your players are in the Bazaar. Obviously no two NPCs are going to react to the characters in the same way, and no two NPCs are going to [...]

Good collection of personality traits that let's you easily create an NPC quickly. The real beauty of the table though is that it breaks traits down into Good, Neutral and Evil. This gives you a little more realistic result rather than a completely ran [...]

Enjoy the ease of using this product, ecepecially when you're trying to create a load of npcs. The only problem that I have is that I have had to modify it because I can't find a d30 anywhere around. [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
