Designed to be compatible with the most recent incarnation of the most popular fantasy role playing game of all time, this is the first adventure adapted from one of The Swamper’s curious tales, and we feel that we have done it justice. It concerns the plight of a small community, tainted fruit, and a potentially grave threat to the entire region.

Strange Harvest is intended for 4-6 characters of 2nd to 4th level. It is suitable for DMs and players of all experience levels, though we have included notes to aid novices in their first foray into fantasy role playing. The adventure includes detailed descriptions, maps, and evocative illustrations to help create the most immersive role playing experience possible.

Just ran this with a party of 5 3rd level characters. Tweaked the encounters a tad bit and they loved it. I used it as a side quest as they traveled. I played the villagers as a bit more bigoted and racist then the module intends, but it led to a great deal of roleplay and lent toward more ideas and a great hook for the campaign as a whole. Great work. I am a fan of The Swamper and Gothnog on YouTube so running this was a joy for me. Thanks for the great sessions. And keep the videos and supplements coming.

Is it doable to run for a group of four 1st level PCs as-is? It seems like the 5e Starter Set threw way more monsters at the players in the beginning and I thought that went okay for a group of 1st level, so purely eyeballing this, I'd say this wouldn't be too bad?

Thank you for your interest.

If I were running it for level ones, I'd tone down the frog in the pond, perhaps shorten the cliff climb, and then have fewer Nayla at the end. It's really only the combat you'd really need to be careful on, the rest is investigation and exploration. When I first wrote it, I ran it for level 3s, and it was too easy.
If you really want to go as-is for level ones, I'd say it'd be challenging but possible, if they were cautious and used good tactics.

Let me know how it works out.

What is the challenge rating/xp for the Nayla tribalists and the shaman?

I compared the monsters I created to existing ones in D&D. I would put the Nayla Tribalists at CR 1/4 (50 xp), and the Nayla Shaman at CR 2 (450 xp).

The first time I ran the adventure, it was with 4 level 3 PCs, and they found it a bit on the easy side. I think it's ideal for level 2 PCs, but it all depends on how you run it and what modifications you make to it.

Thanks for the question, and I'd love to hear about your experiences with it.

Thanks for the response, and I will reply back after I have run it. I have 6 players but sometimes one of them can't be there (he's radio DJ) so I have to adjust any canned adventure for the party size. I'll probably increase the number of tribalists to compensate or maybe even add a second shaman since I have both a warlock and a bard in the party. Or maybe make the second caster be a warlock.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
