Build a starship. Brew a potion. Explore a dungeon. Create a universe. Give your wizard a spaceship.

This starter kit introduces you to the What’s O.L.D. is N.E.W. game system, which is a set of game rules which powers the roleplaying games O.L.D. (a game of medieval fantasy), N.E.W. (a game of futuristic science fiction), and N.O.W. (a game of explosive contemporary action). These three games are all fully compatible, and are designed to be played either as standalone roleplaying games or mixed and matched to create different combinations.

The starter kit contains a very stripped-down, simple expression of the core rules found in the full game(s).

Six iconic pregenerated characters, a short introductory adventure, and an introduction to the basic rules provides you with enough to run a complete adventure and start creating your own!

Print editions: Standard uses thinner paper than Premium and the colours aren't as vivid or bright; however, the book is cheaper!

What WOIN Books Do I Need?

What's OLD is NEW is designed in a modular way to let you build the rules system you want. There are three character creation books (Fantasy Careers, Modern Careers, Future Careers), three equipment books (Fantasy Equipment, Modern Equipment, Future Equipment) and three core books (Fantasy Core, Modern Core, Future Core), along with an assortment of additional books like Space, Elements of Magic, Redline, Building A Universe, and so on.

You need at minimum one character creation book, one equipment book, and one core book. They can all be from the same genre, or you can mix and match to put wizards in space or aliens on contemporary Earth.

Check out the full WOIN line here at DTRPG or here at RPGNow. The WOIN core rules are designated open gaming content.  See the official website for more information.

reading through the book and on page 20, the part in blue about exploits. It says "Mandallan’s Charge is an example" but when i go to his sheet there doesn't seem to be a dice payment associated with using charge. The androids there is 2d6 charge for using Achilles heel but i do not see anything for the knight. The full book indicates 2d6 is payment but using charge.

I just downloaded the starter kit in last couple of days. The file name says may 2016.

The description information for your splat books (space for instance) state that they require the "core rulebook" is required. Though no "core rulebook" is available. If these supplements can be used using the stripped down rules of the starter kit it may avoid confusion to state that. I too cannot wait for more!

[WOIN] Future Core has just been released (a couple of days ago). The full rules of the game are also on the WRRD on the official website (which I'm not allowed to link to from here, so you'd need to google it!)

Do you mean of this, or the full game? There's a softcover version of the starter set above. The full game was successfully Kickstarted last year, and the three hardcover rule books don't yet have a release date for the general public (as opposed to Kickstarter backers) but will be some months away yet at the very least. There's lots more info and a growing rules reference document on the official website at www.woinrpg.com if you need more material in the meantime!

THis actually perked my interest, and wondering when we can expect an actual book.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
