(5E) The Blacksmith's Burden

ADD TO WISHLIST >

When the party arrives in the small village of Goldendale they find a shortage of metal goods and a community upset with the lack of production. Despite their admiration for the village blacksmith, folks grow concerned about his inability to complete the simplest jobs even though they hear the ring of his hammer throughout the night...

This 24-page sidetrek details the various NPC's and features in the village of Goldendale as well as the areas (and opposition) the party must investigate to unravel the mystery of the blacksmith’s burden.

This adventure is compatible with the 5th (and earlier "classic") editions of Dungeons & Dragons. It is intended for characters of levels 2 - 4 and can be incorporated into any setting. It features hooks at the start and finish to draw the characters in as well as to spur on further adventures. The encounters feature maps and stat blocks for all of the party's foes.

The Blacksmith's Burden is well suited for those times when adventurers go "looking for excitement" when they stop off in a backwater town on the way to their next quest.

This product includes a second file: a printer-friendly version of the adventure that strips out the backgrounds to spare your ink/toner cartridges.

Looking to add more texture to your NPCs? Be sure to check out my Five Fantasy Barkeeps series: Volume 1: Sources of Knowledge and Volume 2: Suspicious Motives. And, if you need an entire inn with a friendly necromantic twist, stop by The Eternal Rest.

Need something more than the same tired tavern?

Check out ;The Eternal Rest!

This 19-page supplement is a system-neutral addition to any fantasy setting that provides:

  • A unique setting full of story hooks and fleshed out NPCs.
  • A complete inn, ready to be inserted into any campaign. ;
  • Maps of the inn.

The Eternal Rest ;can serve as a departure from the usual layover for adventurers, or it can become a base of operations for characters who like a little gloom with their drinks between quests.

Need a new face standing behind the bar?

Take a look at Five Fantasy Barkeeps, Volume 1: Sources of Knowledge.

This 14-page supplement of system neutral material introduces five developed barkeeps to easily insert into your campaign as needed:

  • Volume 1: Sources of Knowledge introduces barkeeps perfect for introducing special or unusual information.
  • Images, descriptions, backstories, and personalities.
  • Hooks to create instant relationships with PCs.
  • Hooks to generate instant adventures for parties.

Stop using the same, tired bartender tropes! (Your players are sick of that bad, not-quite-Scottish accent you insist on using.)

I played this in one shot with four players. Two of them were first time players, the other two were experienced. Everybody had so much fun with this. The adventure gives a great picture of the town and townsfolk for me as the DM, so even though mos [...]

I thought this was an excellent product and an ideal adventure for low-level characters. Also featured an interesting use of the (often overused) goblin. [...]

Running this adventure right now in my homebrew world. It is easy to include and adapt. Characters, plot, and mystery are well-designed and players feel a real sense of achievement in putting the mystery together. We spent a full 4-hour session just [...]

I finally got around to reading this, and it is great, even as an adventure on its own, but especially as a sidetrek. It introduces a rather standard fantasy village, but somehow manages to make it very charming. The armored goblins and the Goblem are [...]

A very well written adventure. Easy to splice into just about any campaign as long as you can tempt your party away from any major settlements. Luckily mine were in a village, due to numbers weren't following up the main plot. Lasted two good long sess [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
