HC SVNT DRACONES puts you in the body of a human experiment that outlived its creator, and has gone on expanding into the galaxy while trying to heed the lessons of a race that fell to ruin. It's about exploration and fear, expansion and conquest, intrigue and subterfuge, and ultimately, it’s about you, learning to be you, when all the trappings of humanity you define yourself with are dead and gone.

A unique character generation system allows you to assemble your Vector layer by layer, from their family to their species to the unique anatomy that defines their appearance. Interact with your story on two legs or four, from 6 feet up, or less than one. Explore new character interactions and problem solving possibilities when your party can range dramatically in size and shape from person to person.

This new and original RPG setting in the post-human Sol system features a dynamic dice system that allows players to approach problems from a variety of angles, rather than using a single blunt-force solution for everything. With a fresh combat system that incorporates enemy morale and the benefits of leadership, to bizarre implants that grant otherworldly abilities at grave personal cost, HSD promises a gaming experience uniquely different then your usual fare of elves and goblins. Learn about the 8-10-12 dice system in the book, or at http://hsdroleplayinggame.com/videos/

I got it already, and the Extended companion book, but you're still pricing the core book .pdf at US$3.00. Do you still want to go on doing that?

What's the difference between the two pdfs?

Looking at both of them, the only real difference I see is that the "original" one (Hc_Svnt_Dracones.pdf) now has the new combat addendum added between the credits and the back cover (292-3). New downloaders should probably grab that one, otherwise, the two pages are available from http://hsdroleplayinggame.com/utilities/ as a stand-alone pdf.

Still gotta dredge through this, so far looks awesome. But, any chance of getting a PDF outline, so much easier to be able to browse by chapter that way. Minor nitpick, so far looks great and can't complain about the price one bit :)

help requested: i am VERY new to setting up RPGs and handling PDFs; i bought the PDF and downloaded it, but it required a program to open that i lacked. i tried every other program on my computer, and when that didn't work, i used a legit online converter to turn the pdf into a compatible format that worked with "windows photo viewer" and received 7 pages. is this how its meant to be? one of these pages is the table of contents, which gives me the assumption there is at least 284 pages. what did i do wrong?
(please excuse words that don't make any sense, i used google auto correct.)

Were you able to resolve this? There should be at least 299 pages. Adobe reader, firefox, foxit or gdrive should be able to read it fine

I'm digging the history and flavour of the game universe. The check system seems to be a fairly straight forward and very robust one for solving a great many issues. My only issue is the unfortunate use of colours for the section headers. In the PDF, the blues and greens blend very well with the background in some cases, made worse depending on the PDF viewer you use. My tablet for instance displays the headers as cyan on white in some cases, depending on the gradient of the background. It's not much better on my computer monitor, but I don't always have my computer handy when I'm playing RPGs around the table with friends. The value of the header colours needs to be dropped quite a bit to make them stand out a lot more against the background.

Is there any chance of a touch up on the PDF to darken the blue and green headers?

Anyone have any handouts or quick rules refferences? Seems i have to slogh through descriptions to get meaty rules and i'd like to have some things availible in nice tables and lists for my slower reading players.

Still mashing togeather a bunch of different rules but this will be the meaty part of characters i suspect.

Oh, and still not seen what the book name actually stands for. That would be nice.

In Roman times there was no "u" and the "v" was a vowel sound but in later languages it was a consonant too, until 500 years ago. It should be pronounced heek soont drah-KOH-ness.

Ok, great book. one BIG downside. guys the book is 200+ pages. you really aught to give us a way to find the password so we can add bookmarks to the PDF! it makes navigation SO much easier. having to crack your PDF isn't a very good way to do things, honestly.

It is, but Adobe does not allow people to add custom bookmarks via Adobe Acrobat, unless you have the Pro version, apparently.

If you don't have the Pro version (as most don't), there are alternatives, like JPdfBookmarks. I haven't tested any, however, so that may be worth keeping in mind.

Wonderfully detailed setting with plenty of plot hooks, interesting and fun mechanics. All around good book, though I do have some questions. For starters; Why no rules for Cogs? They get enough mention and explanation, it would seem natural to include a way to play one. Or at least build NPCs. Second question; on page 65 the book mentions dolphins and seals as races on Europa, but again, they don't seem to be an option anywhere in the actual mechanics of the races. I'm not familar with the kickstarter, so maybe these were all stretch goals that never got met? Something else?

Even without them it's a fun game, just wondering if I need to cook up my own rules for them all.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
