Call to Arms: Witch Hunter

ADD TO WISHLIST >

In many fantasy worlds magic is the greatest power in creation. A single man with sufficient arcane might can rout armies, topple castles, and undo the laws of nature. Faced with such terrible power, ordinary folk turn to those brave, skilled, or crazy enough to hunt down and eliminate sorcerers. These few are known as Witch Hunters.

Benefitting from extensive training, preternatural talent, or good old-fashioned willpower, Witch Hunters can both detect and defy magical power. These rare and deadly talents ensure these adventurers are in constant and high demand, and many among their ranks find employment as mercenaries and special agents of the crown. No matter who employs a Witch Hunter or what his or her methods, however, when it comes to persecuting sorcerers there is no judge, jury, or executioner better equipped for the job.

Depending on the campaign, a Witch Hunter could be...

  • A puritanical warrior who cuts down casters with cutlass and flintlock
  • A canny tribal hunter blessed and sent forth by his people to slay a fearsome enemy wizard
  • A skeptical killer whose disbelief shields him against spells of all types
  • A Church inquisitor tasked with scouring the blight of magic from the world

This master class expansion also includes seven new feats, including the Mage Hunter Spellcasting feat, a Basic Combat feat chain allowing you to overcome and eventually benefit from dire situations, and a Terrain feat chain focusing on the art of stalking.

This file is layered so you can turn the cover and page frames off when printing.

I'm curious, because this keeps popping up. Is there something in gamer culture that suggests "Witch Hunter" should mean something other than "Objectively Terrible Person?" The term keeps showing up describing potential PC's, and it's honestly difficult for me to understand. This seems like a potentially interesting supplement, but I can't get past the name. It's a little like calling your prestige class "Nazi," you know?

Could somebody explain? I really feel like I'm missing something here. Thanks!

PUBLISHER
In popular fiction, and especially in popular high adventure fiction, the term "witch" is often used interchangeably or as a flavor term for "mage" or "magic user." This is true, for example, in the Solomon Kane novels and games, and in many others as well.

Our class is intended for players who want to play characters who directly combat mages, and so the name was chosen to represent that. It is of course *NOT* to elicit or tap into any real world or fictional connotation otherwise.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
