We are not alone.

A little more than three centuries ago, humanity woke up and climbed carelessly out its little blue and white cradle. Less than a decade ago, we earthlings blundered into the dark beyond the crèche of our solar system's gravity well to learn that Einstein was wrong. Travel to distant stars is difficult and dangerous, but possible—and very, very profitable.

We emerged onto the galactic stage to find ourselves largely ignored by the societies that inhabit the ruins of the Grand Empire. It turns out that we of Earth are nothing special, scarcely worth noticing at all. A hundred or more races eke out their existence in the galaxy that we still quaintly refer to as the Milky Way. Most of them think it cute that we still call our home star “the Sun.”

We have some catching up to do.

You are a jumper, a risk-taker, a fortune hunter. Become an alt with a genetically engineered body purpose-built to conquer the stars. Become a cog with cybernetic enhancements that give you a unique edge over the competition. Become a borg with a powerful robot body and just enough humanity left to distinguish you from a pure machine. Become a psi with the ability to unravel and reweave the underlying fabric of the universe to your liking. Or take to the stars as a vinnie with just the DNA, brains, and tenacity that you were born with.

Show 'em all that Homo sapiens still has what it takes.

Refuse to be ignored. Leap into the void. Cross the chasm to strange new stars.

Claim your birthright.

This edition of Starcrossed is based on Fate Core. The Fate Core book is required to play. Starcrossed is fully compatible with other Fate Core products. All minor variations are documented in the book.

Absolutely! I owe y'all a great game. I promise it's coming. I have 46,281 finalized words and 54 pieces of art in 200 pages that seem to be perpetually 90% done. Starcrossed indeed! There are and additional ~4,000 words and six pieces of art that I am unsatisfied with. If I don't love them yet, I can't expect you to.

Overall, I'm much happier with the Starcrossed layout and design than I am with Modernity. I think you will be, too. I've learned oodles about modeling and rendering 3D art, doing more creative InDesign layout, and even a few tricks in Photoshop.

Unfortunately, the Great Novelist in the sky switched (without warning) from a self-help script that He and I agreed upon to writing country song lyrics for my life last month. =( Our landlord sold our house out from under us last month, and my entire life (minus this computer) is in boxes to be moved by the end of the month. For a family of five, that's short notice--right during finals for my kids. At least my wife is out of the...See more

Woohoo! The copy is off to the editor for a final pass. I'm waiting for revisions to a dozen or so pieces of art. Thanks for your patience, Loyal Preorderees. I expect to have a final product in your hands in less than a week. =)

Update: This week has been totally diverted. Now that my wife's been released from the hospital and her kidney infection is under control, my Mr. Mom duties are returning to a more typical level, but the randomization and delay couldn't be helped. I'm working through the last round of editorial input and I expect to get the last of the art updates tomorrow or the day after.

Starcrossed will be delayed less than one month.

It is with much regret that I inform you of the unfortunate delay of the release of Starcrossed. I’m sorry!

After a detailed, all-day review of the current state of the product, both art and content, I have decided to slide the release into April 2015 (next month) in order to take the time needed to correct and upgrade some non-trivial elements of the game. I know you’ll be more pleased with the finished product then. And so will I.

If you preordered Starcrossed, I am going to give you a copy of the first scenario, Raid on Slavers’ Bay, for free by way of apology. Raid will be released at the end of May. (Raid’s already mostly done, so that’s a pretty firm date.)

Preorders will still close on 01-April-2015 (UTC -5).

I have been very impressed with the quality of work your company makes. This is why I signed on for this product. You cant rush such standards... if it takes a bit longer... no problem for me. All I ask is you give me something as cool as a space opera Modernity. That seems almost a given.

Yes! Merry [belated] Independence Day (if you happen to be in the U.S.). If all goes as planned for the remainder of the weekend, you should see a shiny new PDF on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning (Central time). Then I can turn my split-brain focus to moving the family to a new firebase and the promised operation, Raid on Slavers' Bay. Thank you for your persistence (and patience)!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
