Quick and easy rules for steampunk roleplaying in the world of Abney Park

With a crew of drunken pilots
We're the only airship pirates
We're full of hot air and we're starting to rise
We're the terror of the skies but a danger to ourselves

OneDice Abney Park's Airship Pirates is a game of swashbuckling adventure set in 2150, following the Great Apocalypse of 1906. From the steampunk sky-cities of Isla Aether and High Tortuga come the airship pirates! Below lie beast-haunted wastelands, criss-crossed by the tracks of the freedom-loving Neobedouins. In the walled, fog-shrouded cities, people huddle in forced Victorian squalor, lorded over by the upper classes, while the Emperor's clockwork policemen prowl the streets...

The OneDice system is easy to pick up and play. Everything you need to play (exept for pencils, paper, and an ordinary six-sided dice) is in this book.

Lavishly illustrated in full colour by steampunk artists MANDEM, Phantoms Siren and Robert Brown.

Suitable for ages 12+

So, how compatible (by which I mean usable with little to no modification) would the supplement books from the original AP be with the OneDice version?

How is this different than the original Airship Pirates game? Is the original Airship Pirates RPG a dead game now?

It's a completely different system - OneDice is very quick and simple. The original game is not dead, despite the hiatus - we have the print files and we will be re-releasing the Heresy version too.

I've noticed that there's been a sudden lack of support for the previous edition of Airship Pirates. I can't wait to get my hands on a physical copy of this. Is there any plans for a new version of Under the Lamplight and the release of the previously planned sourcebooks?

PUBLISHER
Yes - we do plan to get the original game back out in print form! And that includes Under the Lamplight and then new material.

Maybe I overlooked it in the rules, but how is reloading weapons handled?
Customer avatar
November 28, 2014 4:43 pm UTC
PUBLISHER
It depends on the weapon - it is either a free action or there is a note on the relevant weapons table (usually denoted by an asterisk).

The softcover is available now. We're doing a hardcover too, but that will be a few more days :)

Is there a reason for me to buy this if I have already got the regular Airship Pirates rulebook?
Customer avatar

PUBLISHER
Probably not, if you like the existing rules. If you want something simpler - perhaps for playing with kids - it might be worth a look.

Is it something I could just whip out and say "Let's play this!" when I'm with a group who are not complete hardcore roleplayers? Thinking about getting it for that purpose. Also, the adventure seeds (I gernerally like seeds more than pre-printed modules)

Yep, absolutely! It's streamlined and designed for quick play/convention play/new players/junior players, etc., though it's complete enough/deep enough for more experienced gamers too.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
