Corporia: Quick-Start Guide

This Corporia quick-start guide introduces the setting and rules of the Corporia RPG, a futuristic urban fantasy written by Origins and ENnie award-winning author Mark Plemmons.

In Corporia, you take on the roles of reborn Knights of the Round Table or their supernaturally-powered allies, fighting an invisible war for justice in the struggle between otherworldly Chaos magics and the oppressive Order of the ruling mega-corporations! Corporia is 'knights in shining Armani.' It's what happens when you mix Camelot with a spoonful of Torchwood, add a pinch of cyberpunk, a dash of Joss Whedon's Angel, and a sprinkling of Shadowrun. If you enjoy these, you're going to love Corporia.

The guide include rules for playing the game both in and out of combat, along with brief background and setting information - and 13 sample player characters - making it a great way to try out Corporia! The Game Master (aka the Director) will need a copy of the core rulebook for secret information, adventures, monsters, and special character options. You'll also want the core rulebook for character creation/advancement and special options.

The core rulebook received an ENnie 2014 nomination for Best Electronic Book!

Some reasons why Corporia works well as an electronic book:

* the layout is in single-column format and designed so that you can easily read one page on a tablet, or a two-page spread on a desktop monitor.

* Not only is there a detailed table of contents, but each chapter begins with its own mini table of contents for ease of reference.

* Each of the six chapters also has a prominent color that often appears as a font, border, or background on most charts, tables, and even within the art itself (the character chapter is green, the equipment chapter is red, the assets and magic chapter is orange, and so on). These colors actually make cross-referencing instinctive as your brain makes the automatic association between color and chapter!

* The PDF is extensively bookmarked and provides clickable/touchable links whenever a page number or section is mentioned in the body, the tables of contents, and the index, and I also numbered and linked sections of the sample character sheet and the city district map, so you can easily jump to the relevant section.

* The index also uses red text to indicate the links intended for the game master's eyes only.

I was intrigued at the concept of a reincarnation of the round table in a future run by corporations. I am a big fan of kick-start projects and have supported several . I think this is just another aspect of the internet improving our lives and those all around us'I plan on buying the full core set and starting my own weekly game here in the active Valley of the sun Meet-ups here in Phoenix, Az.

Having looked through this book, I think this is a game I could become interested in, and perhaps even sell to my players, as soon as I have another group. It's obvious a great deal of work went into this, it appears to be a sound design, on initial inspection. The only issue I have with it, and this is sort of picky on my part, is the wall's-o-text on each page. Perhaps some columns of text might be in order?

Thanks for your feedback! The book is designed at comic book 'trade paperback' size for easy digital tablet viewing. This makes the pages roughly 6.5" wide compared to larger RPG books which are 8.5" wide. I tried to break up the text on most pages with lines, tables, and images, but breaking the text into columns would create too-narrow columns.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
