About Heroic Maps

Our game boards were originally designed to be used with Heroquest.  That's why you'll notice we don't mark the doors or add furniture - you can put these wherever you want them, using you favourite system (paper or 3D).  This will mean the board can be different every time you use it. You can download our free door pack here:

Heroic Maps boards are flexible enough to be used with many game systems.

Heroquest players: Our boards are the size of half of the Heroquest board, so two placed together are a complete replacement for the original game board.  This means our maps provide a complete and ranging expansion for the classic dungeon crawl game!

Mix and Match with other Heroic Maps!

Have you tried these exciting battlemaps?

Go on an adventure!

FYI to you and your customers. I originally added this set to my wishlist, and every time I would try to add it to my cart from my wishlist (to purchase along with other items from my wishlist) I would get an error "The selected option is no longer available for this product", the "option" I assume it was talking about is the default download format "watermarked PDF". Today I decided to just try to add it to my cart directly from this page, and the order went through without any issues. I'll leave it on my wishlist for a few days in case the site support wants to look into the issue to determine if it was just a fluke problem with my wishlist or if others will have the same problem.

Edit: It was auto-removed from my wishlist after the purchase.

While you guys are doing great work, at a great clip, and this set will be very useful for many, it is hampered by the scale. While miniatures for RPGs are generally in a variety of similarly-sized scales such as 25mm & 28mm, virtually all maptiles, battlemaps, and boards use a horizontal scale of 1" squares representing 5' (therefore 1:60). In your directions you've given printout percentages for 25 and 28mm, and from that I'm guessing we should be printing out the tiles at around 92%. I recommend you change that to the standard 1" (25.4mm), as there will be many who won't read the specific directions, or will be bothered by it. Printing them off as is and having slightly larger squares than normal isn't a problem in itself, but can be once you try to use the tiles with other sets, maps, or accessories.

Hi Anne,
Our decision to make the default size 28mm was due to the fact that in our experience of using miniatures, a 1" square was too small, and it was difficult to have several miniatures in the same area. We found 28mm to be a good size. However, because we understand that many people will prefer to use 1" squares, we still give instrutions for this (in fact, printing the tiles at 90.7% as per the instructions will produce squares at 25.4mm - the value is just rounded down to 25mm in the instructions). The default is at the larger size of 28mm because there is no quality loss when reducing to 25mm, whereas there would be quality loss and pixelation if the default was 25mm and it was scaled up to 28mm. This set will also be available as a printed card set in the next few weeks, and this will be at 1" scale because of the size of the cards available.

Thanks Joseph! Your explanation makes a lot of sense - I just hope nobody else got/gets confused ;)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
